The Office of Communications is a centralized service unit that develops effective communications products and strategies to empower and share impactful scholar messages to wide audiences. The Office of Communications meets the daily needs of the institution through web development and publication support, convening and event support, multimedia services like video, animations, and podcasting, governance of visual design and brand systemts, social media management, and institutional brand and media communications. Position Location: This position is hybrid. Hybrid positions combine regular in-person presence at our Washington, DC office with the option of at least two days of remote work each week. Responsibilities Ready to contribute to Brookings' success? The Public Affairs and Events Coordinator (Coordinator) plays an important role in coordinating and facilitating the Institution's engagement with policymakers and other stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Government & Public Affairs, the Coordinator will support the execution of comprehensive strategies that foster productive relationships by scholars with various stakeholders through audience research, analytics tracking and insight generation, event coordination, and other support. Public Affairs Research and Analytics (40%) + Conduct research to identify key contacts and track developments within government agencies, industry groups, and other relevant organizations. Ensure accurate and up-to-date contact information for effective communication and relationship management. + Conduct research to determine where government staff and other key audiences get their information, including popular newsletters, news outlets, and online platforms. Identify key publications and media channels for potential placement and outreach. + Support the monitoring and tracking of legislation and regulatory developments at various government levels to identify opportunities for scholarship. + Design and implement methods for collecting audience data through surveys, in-house analytics, and other tools. Analyze data to identify trends, preferences, and areas for improvement. + Support the tracking of testimony of Brookings scholars in Congress and in front of federal agencies, as well as in foreign, state, and local government entities. + Develop and execute mechanisms for tracking and measuring progress toward departmental and organizational goals, to support the use of data-driven insights in informing strategies and actions. + Create detailed reports and presentations on progress to goals, audience research findings, etc. Event Coordination and Support (40%) + In collaboration with Director of Government & Public Affairs and Manager of Government Affairs, coordinate and execute off-site events. + Assist the Events Team with management of in-person check-in, including registration and troubleshooting for Brookings's event attendees, and pre-event room setup check. + Process all event transcript audio recordings through a web-based transcriptions program, reviewing in full for accuracy, clarity, and errors. Routes completed transcripts to programs for review and formats for posting to brookings.edu. + Assist program staff with any in-person support, such as routing live and advanced online audience questions, running mics for live audience Q&A, etc. + Help draft, send, and track event invitations and follow-up communications. + Support invitation coordination for speakers of high importance at Brookings events. Communications/Internal Support Strategies (20%) + Help prepare subject matter experts to brief officials, deliver testimony to government committees and commissions, and to provide educational briefings to stakeholder groups including, e.g., congressional staffers. + Support the development of communications products, such as one-pagers, presentations, newsletters, multimedia scripts, web copy, etc. + Collaborate with internal, cross-functional teams to conduct the work listed above. + Collaborate across the Central Comms team and across the Institution to ensure products are tailored to identified audiences to best present Brookings scholars and work to stakeholders. + Work across teams to leverage data and insights, ensuring comprehensive support for all initiatives. + Actively contribute to internal team and/or organizational work that shapes our systems and our culture. + Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ready to make an impact? In this role, you will support Brookings values of collegiality, respect, inclusion, diversity and community, and bring the following qualifications: Education/Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in political science, international affairs, public policy, communications or related fields. A minimum of two years of related work experience in government affairs, public policy, or related fields, preferably with a focus on engaging with government bodies and officials. Understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes at the federal level; local, state and/or international experience. Experience with database creation/management and analytics tracking. Experience with events coordination and management. Brookings policy prohibits lobbying in the course of Brookings activities and this position will not be expected or permitted to engage in lobbying activities.
