Project Scientist - RF Accelerator Research Job ID 6290 Location SLAC - Menlo Park, CA Full-Time Temporary **SLAC Job Postings** **Position Overview:** SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Project Scientist to join the RF Accelerator Research Division of the Technology Innovation Directorate. The division pursues a broad research portfolio spanning accelerator technology and applications, beam physics, quantum information, material science, piezoelectrics and electromagnetic sources. This position will align with one of these focus areas. **Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.** **Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:** + Performing high quality experimental and/or theoretical research + Collaborating with SLAC staff and external partners + Working with colleagues to develop research programs + Research programs may include: electromagnetic design, beam physics, nonlinear photonics devices, ultrafast science, superconducting device design and nanofabrication, spin qubit design and fabrication, rf source design and test, cryogenic characterization, qubit characterization, materials characterization, superconducting and rf accelerator design, radiographic inspection and radiobiology + Designing controls and data acquisition software for experimental setups **Note:** This is a 12-month fixed term position with the possibility of extension contingent on project funding and needs. **Qualifications:** + Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, engineering or related field with minimum two years of experience in accelerator research. + Ph.D. /Post Doc level expertise in accelerator physics, linear accelerators, beam dynamics, quantum information, material science, numerical simulation codes and methodologies for rf analysis and beam dynamics. + Effective communication and writing skills to prepare and present technical and scientific documentation. + Demonstrated record of scientific productivity through publications + Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population. + Demonstrated ability to carry out independent research and be able to collaborate in a team environment. **SLAC Competencies:** + **Effective Decisions:** Uses job knowledge and solid judgment to make quality decisions in a timely manner. + **Self-Development:** Pursues a variety of venues and opportunities to continue learning and developing. + **Dependability:** Can be counted on to deliver results with a sense of personal responsibility for expected outcomes. + **Initiative:** Pursues work and interactions proactively with optimism, positive energy, and motivation to move things forward. + **Adaptability:** Flexes as needed when change occurs, maintains an open outlook while adjusting and accommodating changes. + **Communication:** Ensures effective information flow to various audiences and creates and delivers clear, appropriate written, spoken, presented messages. + **Relationships:** Builds relationships to foster trust, collaboration, and a positive climate to achieve common goals. **WORK STANDARDS:** + Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations. + Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for environment, safety and security; communicates related concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
