POSITION SUMMARY 

MPC’s Robinson Refinery (IRD) located in Robinson, Illinois is seeking a Refining Project Manager. This position’s main role is to develop and execute projects by applying the Marathon Project Management stage gate Process (MPMP). These projects involve a wide variety of refining process units and facilities and are implemented to achieve refinery strategic objectives including improving operational efficiency, increasing reliability, margin enhancement and growth opportunities. This position reports to IRD Major Projects Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Apply project management and engineering skills in all phases of projects from conception to closeout. 

Manage multiple projects and assignments in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner. 

Interface with technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and other IRD departments including Tech Service, Operations, Maintenance and Construction in support of project development and execution. 

Lead the project engineering effort including coordination of Engineering Contractors ensuring timely, cost effective and quality-controlled completion of all phase deliverables. 

Compile project information into a Decision Support Package (DSP) for project approval to proceed to the next phase.  

Collaborate with the Engineering Contractor and MPC Project Controls group in development of a project milestone schedule and overall cost; verify project cost/schedule are forecasted and tracked accurately throughout the project. 

Coordinate the procurement of engineering services and equipment to meet the goals of the project and ensure all MPC requirements are met. 

Review engineering drawings for compliance with MPC core specifications and standards.  

Conduct field walk downs and participate in constructability reviews. 

Work with construction representatives to define construction work packages (CWP).  

Lead Management of Change (MOC) requirements for assigned projects to ensure safety, operability, and maintainability in design. 

Provide technical support during construction including timely resolution of construction Requests for Information (RFI’s).  

Conduct presentations to the Refinery Leadership Team (RLT) for progress updates and alignment on major project decisions. 

Support operations and maintenance during commissioning and startup. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum (Required) Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited institution is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date.) 

Five plus years post-degree experience in a Project Management or Engineering role is required.  

A valid driver’s license is required.   

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.   

Preferred Qualifications 

Previous experience on a major project (over $25MM) as either the project manager or project engineer preferred.   

Eight plus years post-degree experience in a Project Management or Engineering role preferred.  

Previous experience in the refining or petrochemical industry preferred.
