Short Description:

The Project Manager assists in the design, procurement, installation, testing, and acceptance of integrated information technology systems for NJ TRANSIT facilities construction, repair and renovation projects.

 

Complete Description:

Years of Relevant Experience: 7 plus years

 

Preferred Education: 4 year college degree or equivalent technical study

 

Role Description:

 

1.  Working in conjunction with NJ TRANSIT in-house design staff and/or external design consultants, develops design documents for integration of various information technology systems (e.g. telecommunications, public address, variable message signage, video surveillance, revenue collection, etc.) into plans and specifications for facilities construction, repair and renovation.

2.  Coordinates design of information technology systems with appropriate NJ TRANSIT department responsible for maintenance and operation of such systems.

3.  Interfaces with end user groups (e.g. Bus Operations, Rail Operations, Light Rail Operations, external transit entities) to ensure information technology systems designs meet required functional needs.

4.  Ensures that information technology systems designs are in conformance with applicable construction codes of the jurisdiction where the project is located, as well as technical requirements of utilities and telecommunications service providers.

5.  Develops preliminary budgets, schedules, feasibility studies and cost/benefit analysis as necessary to support information technology systems integration in engineering projects.

6.  Prepares plans, specifications and cost estimates, schedules and other contract document preparation required by in-house design staff and/or external design consultants. 

7.  Oversees code review, permit submittals, environmental compliance and regulatory reviews, etc. applicable to information technology systems.

8.  Assists in procurement of construction services for projects involving or including information technology systems installation, including answering requests-for-information from potential bidders.

9.  Performs bid analysis related to information technology systems costs submitted by contractors. 

10.  Provides technical support regarding questions, submittals based on technical input from in-house design staff and/or external design consultants.

11.  Reviews system integration plans, shop drawings, and product submittals for information technology systems/equipment from contractors and subcontractors.

12.  Oversees the preparation for evaluation and approval of change orders involving information technology systems. 

13.  Participates in construction site inspections as requested by Construction Manager.

14.  Assists Construction Manager with coordination/interface of contractor work with service installation/upgrades by utilities and telecommunications service providers.

15.  Assists Construction Manager in monitoring testing and acceptance of information technology systems prior to project closeout.

16.  Assists Construction Manager in ensuring acceptability and completeness of information technology systems prior to project closeout.

17.  Develops punch list documentation for information technology systems installation work at project closeout.

18.  Assists Project Manager in review and approval of progress payments, and monitors progress of scheduled work with Project Manager and Construction Manager.

19.  Assists Project Managers in the preparation of internal project documents as necessary, including Board items for approval, status reports, budget and schedule reports, forecasting of expenditures, etc.
