Department Summary:

MITRE’s Responsive Operational Planning Department in the Air Operations Division of the Air & Space Forces Center helps the Air Force provide the warfighter with Command and Control (C2) capabilities to gain a competitive edge in air superiority against peer adversaries. Their mission is to enable the Air Force to deliver effective C2 capabilities through continuous delivery, agile development, and DevSecOps.

Roles & Responsibilities:

MITRE’s Responsive Operational Planning Department is seeking an experienced, passionate and entrepreneurial Project Leader (PL) for the Airspace Mission Planning (AF DCGS) Project.  Airspace Mission Planning is responsible for providing Air Force Mission Planners with the tools they need to effectively plan missions, including development of platform-specific packages for each airframe, as well as the framework for which these packages integrate.  Key program office and related programs leadership teams are located at Hanscom AFB in Bedford, MA.  The successful candidate will lead a diverse team of engineers with the deep technical and/or operational expertise needed to help the sponsor modernize the current capabilities and integrate with the future capabilities. The successful candidate will work closely with MITRE and Government leadership to evolve the work program to stay relevant to the latest challenges arising from the Air Force’s Great Power Competition (GPC) re-optimization.

Key responsibilities include:

Mature and shape the work program for improved mission impactChallenge the sponsor and project team to refine and shape the work program in alignment with AF, Division, and Department strategy and outcomes to deliver mission impact for our sponsor’s highest priority challenges  Establish a Mission Value Chain (MVC) with emphasis on providing evidence-based recommendations and demonstrable mission impactCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and mission requirements and lead innovation that advances the strategic objectives.Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation to ensure successful project execution.Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide updates on project progress.Mentor and guide junior team members to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.Identify and mitigate risks associated with project execution and delivery.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Strong understanding of Command and Control (C2) systems and their application in air operations.Proven experience in leading complex projects within the defense or aerospace industry.Demonstrated ability to implement agile development and DevSecOps, and/or Systems Engineering methodologies.Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with the Air Force or other military branches.Familiarity with modern software development tools and practices.Experience in mentoring and developing high-performing teams.
