Jhpiego seeks the services of a Project Director, to provide leadership for the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Adolescents and Young People’s technical areas in South Africa. The role will involve leading a team of staff, working closely with the ministry, donors, partners, civil society and other key stakeholders to support the strengthening of SRHR and AYP programmes in the country. The Project Director will provide overall strategic and technical leadership and vision for the project and will ensure the timely, efficient, and cost-effective implementation and reporting, as well as the strategic, programmatic, technical, and financial integrity of the project.

Responsibilities

Technical & Program Leadership

Provide vision and leadership to the development of the project strategic plan, work plan, and project monitoring, in close collaboration with the donor/s, Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders to ensure timely implementation and compliance to the requirements and regulations of the award.Oversee all aspects of project, including the day-to-day management of staff and operations. Ensure the project is technically sound, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of the country and donor/s.Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the donor, the national, provincial and district government, as well as any other implementation partners to maximize resources and avoid duplication of effort. Acts as the primary contact liaison and provides strategic and technical support to the national, provincial and district government in policy development and coordination of the project. Cultivate and maintain strong strategic relationships and alliances with ministries, donors, implementing partners and other key stakeholders to advance Jhpiego programs; Participate in project meetings and present progress, achievements, and lessons learned to key stakeholders and partners, in public and professional circles through other meetings, conferences, and presentations. Maintain regular communication with Jhpiego technical and program staff to drive efficient and compliant program operation;  Liaise with senior Jhpiego technical leadership in SRHR, Adolescents and Young People programmes and other relevant technical areas to apply national and/ international good practiceLead the introduction and scale-up of relevant programme drugs i.e. DMPA-SC SI and other innovative interventions seeking to strengthen the SRHR and or AYP programmes in the country.

Project Management and Reporting:

Lead the annual work planning process in close collaboration with the donor, the Ministry of Health, project teams, and relevant project partnersOversee the quality, preparation, and timely submission of project reports to donorIdentify issues and risks related to project implementation in a timely manner and apply appropriate program adjustments.Work with Monitoring and Evaluation Director and staff to design and implement a plan to track project data/results to inform adjustments in project implementation.Work with Monitoring and Evaluation Director and staff to identify and implement learning activities needed to respond to the project needs.Integrate community approaches, gender sensitivity, and capacity building of local organizations and staff into all activities as appropriate.Manage technical contributions of potential sub grantees, including defining scopes of workRepresent Jhpiego and present project’s progress, achievements and lessons learned to donors and other key stakeholders through meetings, conferences, and presentations.Ensure that Jhpiego’s project management approaches and tools are utilized in the management of projects.Ensure compliance with donor policies and regulations.

Human Resource & Financial Management

Mentor, support, supervise and manage a team of highly qualified staff and align their efforts in concert with program goals to ensure sustainable results.Ensure programmatic and financial integrity of the project, on time implementation and meeting targets within the scope of approved budget/s.Ensure proper financial management, procurement, administration, human resources and logistics needs of the program are met within Jhpiego’s policy and compliant with donor/s and the government policiesWork with finance and project staff to develop and track project budgets. Required Qualifications Advanced degree in public health, health administration, international health or a related fieldMaster’s degree in public health or any other related or relevant degreeAt least 10 years’ experience working in SRHR/HIV/AGYW/AYP programmesExperience in managing programmes, projects and related budgetsFamiliarity with public health systems relevant to South Africa, preferably with a focus on HIV/SRHR/AYP.Demonstrated experience leading a capacity-building approach for local actors in the public sector, providing capacity building assistance at individual and organizational levelsDemonstrated experience and knowledge in establishing project systems and overseeing project start-up and close-outDemonstrated experience in hiring, supervising, coaching and mentoring personnel and ensuring they acquire the necessary training and skills to meet evolving project needsExcellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills in EnglishCompetence in Microsoft Office and related project management softwareAbility to travel nationally and internationally Preferred Qualifications
