OverviewIn conjunction with the Director of Safety, the Safety Program Manager is accountable for daily work of the hospitals Environment of Care and Life Safety programs. The Safety Program Manager will execute all department goals and objectives as designed by the Director and the Vice President of Facilities. Collaboration with other Department Directors, Managers and Clinical leaders is paramount for the successful movement of programs that involve providing a safe environment for patients, families and staff. Manager will also be aware of inherent risks that could cause harm to patients, families, staff and property.

ResponsibilitiesSupports the Environment of Care and Life Safety activities for all facilities under the direction of the Director of Safety:
• Assures compliance with all state, federal and local laws and requirements pertaining to hazardous materials storage, handling and disposal.
• Assists in coordinating the delivery of education for hospital personnel concerning hazardous waste
• As directed, conducts hazardous waste pickup with licensed hazardous waste vendor
• Assists in the inspection process with local Fire Department’s annually as well as state fire inspectors.
• Assists the Director for completion of fire drills per TJC requirements
• Assists in Providing training for staff for decontamination principles, OSHA compliance and use of personal protective equipment.
• Coordinates with Infection Prevention, contractor training for construction projects as the training relates to safety practices.
• Establishes new online tools for continuous learning to maintain compliance and consistency with regulatory standards as applied to environment of care and life safety.
• Participates in Inspections for construction activities for review of Life Safety requirements and corrective actions
• Investigates safety issues that involve patients, families, and staff
• Participates in enterprise wide GEMBA rounds
• Participates in Emergency Preparedness drills as directed by the Director Emergency Management
• Performs EOC and Life Safety tours of facilities
• Performs risk assessments that are consistent with regulatory and enterprise-wide requirements. Ex: Behavioral Health assessments in designated departments
• Responsible for New Employee orientation information for all aspects of Safety.
• Serves as a resource for clinical and non-clinical departments on issues of patient, visitor or staff safety
• Supports the PECLS Committee, all related sub-committees and workgroups as needed.
• Stays well informed of current and emerging changes with the Environment of Care and Life Safety Standards
• Will assist the Director in Developing, reviewing and recommends changes to hospital wide safety policies and procedures to maintain compliance with existing and new regulatory requirement for TJC, CMS, OSHA and other city, state, federal regulatory agencies.
• Will assist the Director to manage risk assessment and reduction activities—and to intervene when conditions immediately threaten life safety and health
• Works closely with the Director of Safety in the coordination, collection and dissemination of information as related to the Physical Environment of Care and Life Safety Committee.
• Works thoroughly with the Director in reporting requirements to state agencies for waste generator status for all of Children’s’ Mercy Campuses
• Works closely with Engineering and Facilities on construction projects to maintain Life Safety endeavors and other safety requirements
• Works closely with regulatory partners relevant to standard changes and compliance
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Public Adminsitration, Fire Service, Law Enforcement, Management. Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $34.21/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
