The Center for Health and the Social Sciences (CHeSS), founded in 2005, strives to continue the legacy at the University of Chicago for being a leader in both research and training at the intersection of health and the social sciences. We foster innovation and collaboration, as well as excellence in research, scholarship, and training. CHeSS staff supports the writing and submission of grant applications and fundraising proposals, brainstorms and coordinates new research initiatives and projects, and provides expert research methods consultation during formative and operational phases of work.


Job Summary

CHeSS is seeking an experienced manager to support, facilitate and coordinate the daily research and clinical activities for the Program on Oral Health, inclusive of the Dental Care Research Study. The Program Manager is a role working closely with and under the direction of Director of Program on Oral Health. While the Director is primarily responsible for overall design, conduct, and management of the clinical trial along with the PI, the Program Manager will support the Director in implementation of the clinical study as well as UCM Dental Research Study Clinic at UCM Hyde Park campus and other locations. By performing these duties, the PM works with the PI, department, sponsor, and institution to support and provide guidance on the administration of the compliance, financial, personnel and other related aspects of the clinical study.

Responsibilities

Manages, in support with the Director, a large randomized clinical trial and related sub-studies.

Manages day-to-day functioning of the study dental clinic including managing equipment sterilization, inventory and purchasing of supplies and instruments, radiation safety, and other clinic related activities.

Reviews compensation to study participants, payments to UC laboratories for study associated procedures, and invoicing/payment to contractors.

Protects patients and data confidentiality by ensuring security of research data and personal health information and compliance with federal regulations and sponsor protocols.

Ensures standard operating procedures (SOP) are implemented and documented in accordance to study sponsor, primary investigator, and regulatory agency specifications.

Maintains accurate and complete records which may include, but are not limited to, relevant IRB approvals, source documentation, Case Report Forms (CRF's), dental clinic documentation, and study related communication.

Ensure compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies including IRB and manage implementation of patient safety and human subject protections.

Support preparation and maintenance of IRB related documentation for submissions and revisions.

Prepares for or participates in quality assurance audits conducted by study sponsors, federal agencies, or specially designated review groups.

Manages, in support with the Director, quality improvement and quality assurance activities that are related to activities such as participant recruitment, data management and routine reporting, and process standardization across clinical and research teams. 

Help prepare reports and other deliverables for funding agencies.

Liaison between Clinical Research Center and study team.

Support the Director in planning and implementation of new initiatives within Program in Oral Health which may include, but are not limited to, electronic health records systems, mobile care and recruitment strategies.

Support the Director and Research Scientist in data management in REDCap and electronic medical and dental records for study related items.

Supports the Director in recruitment of new staff for the research and clinical components of the study.

Manage and supervise performance of CRC1s and Dental Assistants and on-site supervision of clinic and research team members.

Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Works independently to assist with project design.

Guides data collection, evaluation and analysis. Designs and manages databases. Writes reports, articles and manuscripts.

Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Deep understanding of internal University systems and research activities.

Good understanding of dental and medical EHR systems, REDCap and Canvas.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
