Position Summary

 

The Principal Program Manager will lead the development, implementation, and expansion of a comprehensive UAS program, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and integrating Aviation Safety Management System (SMS) principles. This role will focus on building a scalable program that supports UAS operations, while working closely with the UAS team to enhance safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory adherence. The manager will also develop business cases for program growth and engage with internal and external stakeholders, including federal agencies.

 

Job Responsibilities

Establish and manage a strategic UAS program, ensuring alignment with FAA regulations and incorporating SMS principles to support the safety and performance of UAS operations. Ensure that all UAS program activities adhere to FAA regulations, providing expert guidance to the team on regulatory requirements and changes. Collaborate closely with the UAS team to support operations, including storm and emergency response, use case development, and integration of advanced inspection technologies. Build and present business cases for UAS program expansion, demonstrating operational efficiency, safety improvements, and financial benefits, ensuring alignment with regulatory and safety standards. Work with the UAS team to incorporate SMS principles into the UAS program, ensuring that safety protocols, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives are embedded in day-to-day operations. Serve as the primary liaison between the UAS team, internal departments, and external regulatory agencies (including the FAA), resolving operational issues and ensuring alignment with regulatory and safety goals. Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, compliance, and operational success. Use data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement and program optimization. Lead the creation of policies and procedures that support safe and compliant UAS operations, ensuring that all activities align with FAA and SMS guidelines. Oversee program budgets and resources, ensuring cost-effective use while meeting operational and safety objectives. Identify and implement emerging UAS technologies and tools that enhance the program’s capabilities and regulatory compliance. Act as the organization’s expert in FAA regulations and UAS program management, providing leadership and guidance to the UAS team and other stakeholders.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​140,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​238,000

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience 10 years job-related experience


Desired:

FAA Part 107 remote pilot certification Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations 14 CFR (61,91,107) Knowledge of 49 CFR 192, CPUC GO 112,165 Masters Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience PMI-Project Management Institute PMP-Project Management Professional certification
