Occupational Summary:
This position will report to the Director of Special Initiatives at Duke University Chapel who oversees Say the Thing. Say the Thing is a program consisting of an emerging collection of activities which center on storytelling, moral agency, student self-efficacy, and creativity.
The Say the Thing Program Coordinator will work directly with students to help them identify, imagine, and map the stories of their lives. This role involves front-facing work: advising, teaching, and facilitating programming alongside students as well as various campus partners. The selected candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills--both verbal and written--with the ability to respectfully navigate and support a variety of diverse stakeholders.
Additionally, the Say the Thing Program Coordinator will play a critical role in the administration and coordination of several programs ensuring efficient processes to keep Say the Thing programming running smoothly. While the front-facing work will draw on the Program Coordinator’s creativity, openness, and nimbleness, the more behind-the-scenes responsibilities of this role to operationalize systems requires attention to detail, focus, and an ability to multi-task.
Work Performed:
Coordinate co-curricular student enrichment storytelling programming (40%)
Contribute to the envisioning, conceptualization, design, prototyping, and execution of art-based popup storytelling events. Monitor digital storytelling programs by advising student participant storytellers; preparing, collecting, and compiling storytelling materials alongside them; maintaining and distributing storytelling record;, and assisting in student reflection and evaluation. In consultation with the Director, lead and facilitate storytelling workshops for small student cohorts, as well as facilitate instructional support and follow up for all workshop participants.
Manage and administer programmatic processes and systems (35%)
Plan, coordinate, administer, and evaluate processes related to the installation and rotation of storytelling booths throughout campus. This includes acting as a liaison and maintaining strong professional relationships with a variety of campus partners. Support all aspects of programmatic events (i.e. art-based popup storytelling events, promotional events, and storytelling workshops) including the reservation of spaces, coordination of food, record keeping, and maintenance of event materials. Maintain updated records of participation and engagement across programs.
Communications (10%)
Contribute to web/social media presence updating materials, developing content, and assisting in targeted marketing and recruiting efforts for all programs. Prepare regular newsletters and other widely distributed materials for a variety of Say the Thing audiences.
Student worker supervision (10%)
Support student interns working in areas of storytelling design and communication. Direct student volunteers at art-based popup storytelling events and other promotional events.

Required Qualifications
Education/Training:
Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience:
Work requires three years of experience in program administration and implementation including program design, and/or higher education co-curricular work or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferences
Master's degree in higher education, religion, ethics, liberal arts or equivalent Previous experience with teaching Design/art background

The successful applicant will have an excellent ability to collaborate, problem solve, and work independently. They should be organized, detail-oriented, and have a strong ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines. The ideal candidate is able to think both outside the box and work to achieve specific focused outcomes as prescribed by program goals.
Knowledge of program coordination and design, community organizing and/or digital storytelling highly desirable.
