SCIS seeks to make an appointment at the level of professor/associate professor to undertake the following: 1)Oversee the research programme at SCIS; 2)Produce high-quality research; 3)Advance existing research within the SCIS, and/or develop new areas of research; 4)Contribute to the leadership of the centre.Brief DescriptionREQUIREMENTS: A PhD is required for an appointment at the level of Professor/Associate Professor. Ten or more years of research experience, and knowledge of theoretical and empirical debates focussing on issues of inequality, inclusive development, and the economy in South Africa, Africa and the global South. At least 10 years of experience designing, implementing and managing research projects in an academic setting. Excellent research skills, and proven ability to produce accredited publications with a record of high-quality accredited journal/book publications. A proven track record of effective university teaching, and evidence of graduating PhD and Masters students. An interest in curriculum development, teaching, and learning on issues related to inequality. A high level of motivation and a commitment to progressive policy formulation for South Africa and the global South. Interested in engaging in policy spaces particularly in South Africa and across the global South. Experience working in an organisational environment similar to SCIS would be an advantage. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate congruence with SCIS existing research foci or specify a new area of research related to inequality in the global South. This is a permanent academic position, subject to the standard Wits academic appointment procedures, with an attractive remuneration package and conditions of service.
