The Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is located 18 miles west of Farmington, a community of about 40,000, in the northwest region of New Mexico. Because the Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is on the Navajo Reservation, Navajo preference will apply in the job selection. Job Description APS has an immediate opening for a Production Trainee at our Four Corners Power Plant. The Production Trainee will support the safe, efficient and cost-effective production of electric energy by supplying and preparing equipment, tools, material and protective devices needed for various jobs. Hauls and positions material and parts and assists as needed. Operates hand tools, power tools and forklift. Digs and back fills with hand tools. During the first 180 days of employment time will be split between classroom training and field work (i.e. helper or laborer types of work). The work schedule for this position is a 12-hour rotating shift as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement; LOMA dated December 8, 2015. Production Trainee Program Requirements: - Must successfully complete all required training for Production Trainee within 6 months of hire. - Reasonable and necessary overtime will be required. - Production Trainee will report to Operations based on projected plant needs. Minimum Requirements: - High School Diploma or GED. - Must be eighteen (18) years or older. - Possess a valid drivers license. - Pass both the EEI mechanical aptitude test (MASS) and the EEI operations aptitude test (POSS). - Must live within reasonable distance (one (1) hour) of headquarters. - Qualify for Fire Brigade duties. - Pass a panel interview. - Pass APS physical exam (drug test, etc.). - This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300lbs or less Major Accountabilities: - Complies with safety and environmental rules and regulations. - Complies with all Company policies and procedures. - Successfully completes all assigned training per the training plan. - Hauls and positions material and parts. Assists as needed. - Operates hand tools, power tools and forklift. - Digs and back fills with hand tools. - Performs other duties as assigned. Training Objectives: - Safety and plant orientation - Power Plant Fundamentals (Operations & Maintenance) - Basic computer skills (how to use CBT) - Intro into the electric utility business - Welding and cutting safety - Mandatory training (includes LOTO, OSHA, Environmental, Safety, etc) Hands On Training: - Welding and cutting basics - Forklift training - Arial lift equipment (site specific) Upon successful completion of the Production Trainee Program (maximum six months), will be promoted to next classification in the line of progression. Role Type Plant/Field Role: This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site, due to the nature of work. Eligibility: Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen, Local Representatives, and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty (30) minutes for Metro locations and forty-five (45) minutes for State Region locations. + + For jobs in departments (System, Reliability, Hotstick) that require the majority of the work be performed out-of-town and as such, employees/crews are not required to report to the established headquarters unless directed by Leadership; the reasonable distance requirement will be waived.*. *This will not apply to Troublemen, Local Representatives or Substation Technicians. CIP Requirement: This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements.
