Production Supervisor

Manufacturing Supervisor-1st shift - Boyd Woburn

Summary (Position Description): Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and execution of the production flow in our factory. Directly supervise 20-25 employees; this includes hiring, training, and annual evaluations.

Support, manage and coordinate all phases of manufacturing, engineering, production and warehouse operations, facilities, and administer environmental, health, and safety practices to ensure a safe workplace though effectively managing those that are responsible for those areas through effective communications. Oversees the implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment to maintain proper product functionality, quality, and cost efficiency. Oversees and supervises all areas of production including CNC, assembly, and warehouse employees to ensure production and quality metrics are achieved. Reviews, evaluates, and implements engineering changes and specification requirements for new product releases and sustaining engineering activities. Assists in the dissemination of BOMs and routings. Provides input to tactical decisions that affect the functional areas of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget for expenses and capital investments. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from production and requiring coordination with other departments.

The ideal candidate must have strong leadership skills that will foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork and cooperation to meet organizational goals. It is also important to have a strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles as well as a working knowledge and understanding of HVAC, brazing, charging, electrical mechanical assembly, and testing.

 

Reports To: General Manager

Duties & Tasks

Direct priorities and daily activities of assigned personnel through effective communications. Create and lead a continuous improvement culture focused on eliminating defects through robust root cause and corrective action activities. Lead innovations to current processes and strive for world class, industry leading manufacturing and processes. Manage the objectives and priorities for the manufacturing team. Properly deploy resources to support production area. Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to prevent problems with products and tooling/fixtures. Use effective management and communication skills to create a cohesive team that is able to meet daily objectives. Monitor quality and production performance and adjust plans to meet forecast. Report metrics on Scorecards and provide daily/weekly reports as required. Plan and manage factory resources and report daily/weekly KPI’s as required. Ensure compliance of Boyd policies detailed in our handbook fairly with all employees. Plan and manage factory equipment and assets to meet production schedules.

 

 

Manage EH&S practices to ensure a safe work environment, and compliance with OSHA regulations. Responsible to qualify direct reports and evaluate effectiveness of training including updating the qualification matrixes. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

 

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

Effective Communications with all levels of employees Knowledge of manufacturing processes in machining, assembly, testing, and coatings. Knowledge of Manufacturing Quality and Product and Process Development. Knowledge of warehousing and efficient material delivery processes. Knowledge of root cause and corrective action methodologies. Intermediate knowledge with project management skills. Intermediate knowledge (advanced knowledge preferred) of lean methodologies including but not limited to TPM, 5S, and Visual factory concepts. Intermediate knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems. General knowledge of manufacturing and machining equipment. Advanced knowledge of EH&S and OSHA requirements. Management and leadership experience. Automation experience preferred.


Requirements:

BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or Engineering Technology with 10 years’ experience preferred. Supervisory experience, 5-10 years preferred. Ability to respond to and prioritize manufacturing operation issues as they arise. Ability to effectively meet and communicate with employees, the public and vendors. Daily contact requires courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment. Advanced PC skills using Microsoft Office software, and strong presentation skills. Good written communication skills and effective organizational skills.

 

Work Environment:

This job is performed in a manufacturing assembly and machining environment. Communication is constant with Assembly, Machining, Material Control, Quality, and Engineering groups. This role routinely uses computers and a smartphone along with using designated Oracle business software systems. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to be available or on call.
