Job Summary
The Plant Superintendent will be responsible for all manufacturing activities in blending, encapsulation, tableting, packaging, and inspection departments to assure products are manufactured on time, on budget and meet required quality standards. In addition, the Operations Manager will ensure all departments are operating equipment in a safe manner consistent with current SOPs and GMP requirements, coordinate with maintenance colleagues on preventive maintenance activities, and collaborate with internal and external SME’s to identify and execute on continuous improvement opportunities. This position has accountability to support the site across all shifts.

Work Duties and Required Skills
As a member of the Site Leadership team, the Plant Superintendent is responsible to play an active role in, and coach others in programs including human safety, food safety, quality, environmental standards, Performance Excellence (CI).  They are responsible to ensure each department is supporting the goals of the plant and the division. Leads the Operation of the Plant to maintain personnel and process safety:Coordinate with all shift supervisors regarding all aspects of blending, encapsulation, packaging, Tableting and machine setup to execute the weekly schedule as defined by the planning system.Drive the ‘Safe or We Don’t Do It’ culture within the Operations team and partner with EH&S Manager to drive compliance with Safety Procedures to ensure operators are working in a safe and productive manner. Ensure all supplies, materials and services needed are provided for all shift Blending, Encapsulation and Maintenance Set Up.Ensures the team works safe and the department maintains compliance of all health and safety regulationsDirect work, conduct performance appraisals, reward and/or discipline employees, address complaints and resolve problems. Ensure that all shift members are trained properly and maintain daily.Maintain and authorize written procedures and other documents ensuring documentation is up to date with current practices.Ensures the operation of the site is carried out with all regulatory permits, laws & regulations and best practicesAligns department goals with plant goals and communicates the direction and priorities to the department leveraging a structured management system.Coordinates operation of the plant to insure adherence to established product, environmental, safety, housekeeping & quality guidelines set by the companyDemonstrates ADM Core Values in decision making and actions.Acts as a key stakeholder to the plant leadership team.Models the way of the Performance Excellence Journey:Collaborate with Maintenance department to ensure all equipment is maintained according to assigned schedules.Work with the Process Technology and Product Development group to address OEE performance issues and participate in Kaizen events to address leading causes of downtime, lost productivity, poor yields, or other improvement opportunities.Confirm all applicable KPIs are being measured and improved on a continuous basis. Examples include but are not limited to Yield, Inspection Rate, and OEE.Conducts Daily Review and Response and works closely with the Plant manager and steering team to adjust and adapt and to escalate situations that arise.Is an Effective Communicator:Demonstrate strong communication skills in both face to face and written communication.Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies and proceduresPerforms Colleague Performance Reviews and meets with Colleagues on a regular basis to review goals and individual development plansCollaborates with HR to manage performance of department ColleaguesTakes on additional roles and responsibilities to continually develop self-and/or other teamsMinimum RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred, or related discipline or equivalent experience.Minimum of 5 years production and supervisory experienceDemonstrated leadership in plant health and safety program as well as quality and food safety programs.Ability to manage a food processing facility, employing GMP and HACCP methodologies.Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict; motivating, instructing, and training personnel in a fair, honest, and direct way.Technical competence in mechanics, instrumentation, controls, calculations, and utility systems.Ability to achieve and track excellence using performance-driven metrics.General computer skills including experience with MS Office.Ability to effectively manage time for optimal results.Able to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks, meet deadlines, and strive for continuous improvement and high expectations of direct reports.Applicant must be able to work in all types of climates both inside and out including extreme hot and cold temperatures, noisy environments, heights, dusty environments, all of which require use of Personal Protective Equipment.Ability to climb stairs, access ladders, catwalks and elevated working platforms across all hours of shift working time.
