Production Engineer - Decatur, IL
This is a full-time, exempt position.

As the Production Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in managing day-to-day operations. Your mission is to dive deep into tracking and understanding department costs, yields, quality, and process performance to ensure processes and projects are completed to enable efficient plant production.

The Decatur West Plant is a soybean and corn oil crushing and refining facility including lecithin de-oiling and phospholipids processing. This is a union facility with an hourly workforce of 225 and a salaried staff of 130 employees site-wide.  The Decatur Complex, located in Decatur, Illinois, consists of 6 processing plants, onsite cogeneration, and water treatment facilities, employing ~1500 Plant Operations Colleagues and ~1000 Contractors.

Job Responsibilities Oversight of specific processes and projectsProject management may require purchasing of materials and supplies, equipment installation, budget tracking, employee training, and startup of projectsManage day-to-day operations which may also include shift coverage if neededProject design, development, and management that are specific to the operations of an operating departmentConduct optimization assessments to identify existing and potential opportunities, and propose solutions to improve performance primarily in the areas of energy, chemicals, product yields, and reliabilitySupport capital projects including control strategy development, P&ID management, administration of process control narratives suitable for control application development, and process start-upTraining and mentoring of colleagues, with the potential of indirectly managing 10 to 30 hourly colleagues.Maintain a high degree of availability to a 24/7 operation.Job Requirements  B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Ag Preferred) or equivalent experience3+ years of experience in a food processing production environment or similar industryPrevious leadership experience (in a union environment is a plus)Strong commitment to safety & qualityDemonstrated leadership, strong problem-solving skillsAbility to manage personnel and work closely with corporate departmentsAbility to look beyond the task at hand, anticipate challenges and develop options to overcome themSubject matter expert knowledge level of a variety of process unit operationsAbility to work a rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidaysRelocation Support is available for this position.
