Production Designer, Theatre - Company and Budget Manager, Dogteam Theatre

Responsibilities of the Production Designer and Company and Budget Manager fall under two pillars: Serving as (1) Resident Scenic, Lighting & Digital Media Designer for four or more Theatre productions per year on the Middlebury campus; and (2) Company & Budget Manager for the Dogteam Theatre Project.

Provide student instruction and mentorship; collaborate with theatre faculty and staff to achieve departmental mission and goals.

This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $63,009-$78,787 per year with an expected start date of January 6, 2025. Please submit your portfolio with your application to be considered.

Core Responsibilities: Designs scenery, lights and/or digital media for four or more faculty-directed productions during the academic year. Designs are executed by Theatre’s technical staff under the designer’s supervision. Collaborates in planning and building faculty productions as a scenic, lighting, and/or digital media designer, including preparing for and supervising technical rehearsals and performances. Advises and provides academic support for Theatre Department production classes and student independent projects. Shares responsibility for evaluating students enrolled in lab sessions in conjunction with Theatre Department’s Set/Lighting Professor, THEA 0119 & 0129. The Dogteam provides an active bridge for students of the College to the professional community of theatre makers, and the Company Manager’s  role is directly responsible for the training and supervision of the students in a major element of their essential tasks. Assumes responsibility for transfer and execution of designs and all technical elements for two to three shows annually to the NYC theatre space. Establishes and executes meetings, policies, procedures and all items related to liability insurance and fire codes. Collaborates with the producing director in establishing operational budget and payroll, estimates federal, state and city taxes, along with workers comp and unemployment insurance. Submits and oversees all expenses through the college budget system. Issues weekly payroll, provides income and expense statements for y/e tax purposes. Acts as Advisor for the Hepburn Zoo and advises student designers on departmental projects, when applicable.
