We are looking for a team member to lead product safety for our burning appliances, Marmot apparel, and battery lighting products. The Product Safety (PS) Engineer assures continued regulatory and agency compliance to our cross functional product teams. She/he owns the product safety for assigned categories to project teams for new product development (NPD) projects as well as to existing product improvement projects. **This position will:** + act as a subject matter expert to ensure that all certification and regulatory activities are conducted within established budget, performance, and schedule constraints. + partner with R&D team members to communicate and assure regulatory compliance. + Assist with identifying solutions when needed to navigate regulatory challenges + identify retailer specifications and incorporate into products and associated documentation + leads routine and complex product analysis to determine product hazards and develops an effective safety evaluation program + update and track Safety Data Sheets (SDS), update retailer specific chemical registration websites (WERCs) + identify and assess risk of emerging regulatory applicable to assigned categories, recommend actions needed, and implement changes needed to assure continued compliance + monitor chemicals of concern and communicates requirements through updates of the O&R RSL, and communication to factories working with the Sourcing, R&D, and Quality teams + order and review safety or chemical testing with internal and third-party laboratories. + review Engineering development testing to ensure all Hazard Based Safety principles are addressed + work with Legal and Quality to review customer safety contacts, evaluate product, and recommend improvements with the cross functional team + be located in our Wichita, KS facility + be hybrid working 3 days per week in office + able to travel up to 10% as needed to support role **Qualifications:** + BS in Engineering or another applicable technical field + 1+ years of experience in product development, evaluation or related fields + Experience with evaluating products to standards, and review for safety related issues is a plus + Ability to multi-task and set priorities + Can develop a sense of ownership for assigned categories enabling identifying problems, root-cause analysis, and implementing changes + Conscientious and able to work with confidential information daily + Excellent partnership, verbal, and written communication skills + Quick learner, self-starter in a fast-paced environment **Preferred Qualifications:** + 2-5 years of related experience + Previous experience with consumer products + Previous textile products, gas fueled appliances, or lithium batteries experience + Previous responsibility for product safety or with regulatory compliance + Experience working with North American agencies (CSA, UL, Intertek, USCG, CPSC, FDA) + Previous experience with 3rd party test labs or standards committees to resolve challenges, strengthen standards, interpretation, and application + Experience interpreting and implementing retailer (REI, Costco, Walmart, etc.) requirements Newell Brands (NASDAQ: NWL) is a leading global consumer goods company with a strong portfolio of well-known brands, including Rubbermaid, Sharpie, Graco, Coleman, Rubbermaid Commercial Products, Yankee Candle, Paper Mate, FoodSaver, Dymo, EXPO, Elmer’s, Oster, NUK, Spontex and Campingaz.
