Position Summary:

The Product Safety & Conformity Representative ensures compliant handling of requirements in regard to product safety and conformity. The PSCR collaborates closely with the Program Manager and engineering teams especially during the initial project phases, as well as Qualification Experts for review.

PSCR contributes, develops and sets priorities for eliminating or avoiding product safety-relevant deficiencies in the product development phase (error prevention) based on customer and legal requirementsParticipates in design / process FMEA´s on safety-relevant scopes (Product Safety)Ensures validation of product safety relevant requirements together with the System Test and Validation groupReviews of “lessons learned” checklists for qualified verification of constructions and processes under aspects of product safety.The PSCR also collaborates with the plant leader, head of operational quality assurance and head of development quality to ensure the product requirements are met

Job Responsibilities:

Identify statutory and regulatory product-safety requirements during RFQ phase and development project phaseCreate a validation plan to ensure compliance with product safety relevant standards and regulations (e.g. US FMVSS, Regulation (EU) 2019/2144, Regulation (EU) 2021/535)Ensure and coordinate communication on product-safety requirements with all relevant stakeholders, including customer representativesEnsure that products are designed and manufactured in such a way that the occurrence of safety-relevant errors are avoided. The PSCR can also stop individual parts in the production or the delivery of products, if product safety-relevant deviations cannot be excluded based on a risk analysisProvide special approvals for design FMEAParticipate in special approval of control plans and process FMEAsDefine responsibilities, escalation process and flow of information, including top management and customer notification regarding product safetyEnsure appropriate communication and transfer of requirements with regard to product safety throughout the supply chain, including customer-designated sourcesProvide and ensure training, identified by the organization or customer, for personnel involved in product-safety related products and associated manufacturing processesEvaluate and approve product changes for potential effects on product safety in pre and post SOP phasesDrives assessment of the probability of failure and frequency of the affected product in case of failureEnsures validation of product safety relevant requirements together with the System Test and Validation groupSupport product traceability by manufactured lot (at a minimum) throughout the supply chainSupport lessons learned for new product introductionEnsure handover of relevant customer deliverables

Preferred Qualifications:

Good knowledge of product safety laws and the product liability lawsGood knowledge of relevant automotive regulations for product safety and reliabilityGood knowledge of risk assessment methodsBasic knowledge of product manufacturing in the automotive industryBasic knowledge of OEM group requirements e.g. “VW Group Formel Q konkret, Formel Q Fähigkeit”Basic knowledge of relevant standards and process models (e.g. IATF 16949, VDA, Automotive SPICE®)Basic knowledge of embedded systemsVDA certifications / completed trainings are a plus

Eligibility Requirements:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in technical development, qualification or quality assurance.Willingness to travel 10% of work time
