PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Essential Function      

As our Product Development Manager, you will oversee high volume categories with strategic importance to the company. Drive the execution of product development to ensure critical gates and dates are met throughout all stages of the commercialization process. Focused on maximizing sales and gross margin objectives. Including steering the creation, redevelopment and launch of product across a wide range of beauty categories assigned by the VP and Director. Leveraging consumer insights and trends, you will craft innovative product roadmaps and oversee execution from concept to shelf to align business objectives for long-term sustained growth.

Primary Duties 

Initiates new product ideas and/or recommends improvements to enhance or maintain assigned brands market position including concept, package development, testing plans, merchandising and promotion. Conduct in-depth competitive shopping and trend research to deeply understand the market landscape and consumer preferences. Leverage insights gained to inform key brand and product decisions that align with the overall identity and purpose.  Ensures development execution is in accordance with design, allocation, sourcing, and brand strategy. Lead cross functional communication and coordination of timing, calendar, product updates, approvals, and issues. Category & Brand Management partnership with the merchandising team: Maintain weekly analytics reports to ensure the category is on target throughout the year to hit penetration goals.  Track in stocks on top performing skus at a category level to improve sales performance and the brands that fall under that category.    Lead and manage an Assistant manager, supporting them in the day to day of development and analytics of the brands and categories you lead.  Leverage an internal network to share best-practices in process and product development and drive standardization across the business by leading the way. Connect with external stakeholders (suppliers, customers, research institutes) to develop an innovation ecosystem that results in new project/product development or result in improving existing process. Communicate and cooperate with the marketing and merchandizing teams to align strategy, product development and marketing are intertwined to grow your categories and brands.  Implement best practices ensuring formula optimization, safety, and quality standards are met. With sharp analytical skills, you will maintain metrics on cost, timing, and specifications.  Work cross functionally with sourcing department to ensure raw materials and components delivery is being maintained to quality standards and vendors are vetted to category development criteria.  Deliver trend analysis for category newness and seasonal product line activities. Leverage existing data on market, intellectual property, and customer analytics to identify relevant trends and develop technology roadmap in your area of expertise. Manage and execute budget and cost process for owned categories, negotiating initial pricing, and tracking cost submittals. Anticipate, identify, and communicate any potential obstacles in the development process and facilitate the effective resolution of issues. Partner with cross functional teams to develop and execute samples for awareness and store trials. Demonstrate flexibility to support ad hoc projects or tasks as business needs evolve. Exhibit a proactive, adaptable mindset to seamlessly pivot and contribute to initiatives outside of core responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities             

Bachelor's degree  3+ years experience working in product development within the beauty industry is preferred.  Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in using production management software and tools to track progress, manage inventory, and analyze production data. Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. Proactive and detail-oriented mindset, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy in all production-related activities.

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements             

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
