Product Designer
What We Do Gecko Robotics is helping the world’s most important organizations ensure the availability, reliability, and sustainability of critical infrastructure. Gecko's complete and connected solutions combine wall-climbing robots, industry-leading sensors, and an AI-powered data platform to provide customers with a unique window into the current and future health of their physical assets. This enables real-time decision making to increase the efficiency and safety of operations, promote mission readiness, and protect the environment and civilization from the effects of infrastructure failure. Role at a Glance Be a product designer on Cantilever, Gecko’s new software platform. Cantilever is transforming the protection and maintenance of our civilization’s critical infrastructure, enabling deep analysis of machine-scale sensor data. Product Design plays a key role in bringing together internal users (Gecko robot operators and industry experts), external users (customers at industrial sites around the world, charged with maintaining critical infrastructure), and the Gecko engineering teams who build Cantilever. This is a generalist role including user research, information architecture, prototyping, ideation, workflow/interaction design, and visual design. What you will do In close collaboration with Cantilever’s lead designer, you’ll directly shape the future of the platform. You’ll work both at the edge, visiting customer industrial sites to learn and design in the field; and in the core, bringing those learnings back to Gecko to work them into the platform. To do this, you’ll get to work with and understand the problem sets of every team at the company. You’ll partner closely with engineering teams building applications for internal users (e.g. our own engineers, field operators, and data analysts) and for external customer users. This includes applications that manage the acquisition and processing of robotic sensor data, and applications that let users interact with that data to improve the health of critical infrastructure. You’ll embed with “forward deployed” teams, building new workflows in the field, and help core software teams build extensible UI/UX that generalizes learnings from the forward-deployed teams. You’ll work at varied product maturities and zoom levels, ranging from lo-fi sketches to ideate major new capabilities, to hi-fi refinement of micro-interactions in existing UIs. You’ll travel to colocate with engineers and understand user workflows in the context of the physical infrastructure sites that Gecko protects. About You Required Skills + BA/MA or equivalent experience + Minimum of 4 years of UX/Interaction Design experience, preferably in enterprise software + Portfolio demonstrating high-quality UX/Interaction design work and strong visual design skill + Comfort with ambiguity, figuring out what the problem is as well as how to solve it + Adaptable and flexible; able to operate in a variety of modes while moving fast + Adept at iterating quickly on coarse, low fidelity designs, and refining to high-fidelity specs + An excellent communicator in spoken, visual, and written media + Curious, inquisitive, eager to learn, and a great listener + An inviting facilitator of a broad design process Preferred Skills + Basic programming abilities and/or a desire to learn + Comfort digging into the analytics data to inform your designs + Familiarity with (but not necessarily experience or expertise in) all kinds of software workflows, e.g. web, 3D, video, CAD, productivity apps, pro and consumer, mobile and desktop, etc. Who We Are At Gecko, our people are our greatest investment.
