The Sioux Falls Manufacturing department supports the billboard and fuel light niches within the Commercial market. This department is responsible for the timely and quality production of digital billboards, fuel lights displays, and additional products as business needs demand.
This position is located onsite in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the primary work schedule is Monday-Thursday from 6:00am-4:30pm. There may be occasional overtime opportunities, paid at time and a half. This position offers a competitive base pay.
Responsibilities:
Efficiently and effectively perform assembly, build, wiring, and startup testing of machines from system diagram and electrical schematics, including electrical enclosures and various mechanical assemblies. Work independently and/or assist engineers to create simple designs, manually build, test functionality, and evaluate prototypes for potential production solutions. Work with Product Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering/Operations to test new products and associated fixtures for manufacturing, including eventual deployment into a stable process including NPI process/tasks. Create and update documentation of operation, routings, setup, and maintenance of new manufacturing procedures. Assist in collection and evaluation of process data (time studies, process parameters, EC’s, Deviations, product specific notes and metrics, and quality data) to help create improvement ideas and implement adjustments to improve manufacturing line performance. This would include extensive troubleshooting of all processes when required. Participate in continuous improvement activities for engineering team and manufacturing plants. Review and process Engineering Change (EC) requests. Perform verification to ensure all data is updated correctly. Ensure accountability for EC action items and potentially serve as factory EC Coordinator. Initiate, review, and process Deviation or Variance requests. Create programs for metal fabrication equipment in either a primary or backup role. The programming efforts could include: Trumpf CNC sheet metal punch, CMS CNC extrusion machining center, and Trumpf press brake machines. Create these programs by following established standards and practices, with emphasis on safe operation, part specifications, and efficient use of material and machine runtime.Work effectively and efficiently as a team member including maintaining solid communication (written and verbal) in relating to work schedule, open action items, and project updates to engineering team. Flex into machine operator or other production roles regularly to achieve an agile workforce. Additional duties as assigned to complete site goals. Consistently complete quality work in a timely and prompt manner. Qualifications Completion of or current enrollment in a two-year Associate degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology, Robotics, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a similar technical field is required.Ability to learn various software, industrial hardware control, and programming systems. AutoCAD training and ability to document automation systems preferred. Proficient in Word and Excel. Able to read and document wiring, pneumatic, mechanical changes, and updates to process equipment. Able to use hand tools to work on basic assembly and wiring of tooling and fixtures. Prior work experience which demonstrates working with limited supervision and the need to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and self-direction. Driven and disciplined individual with time management skills while working to focus on correct priorities within the context of team and project goals. Coach-able person who is eager to grow personally and professionally in technical skills, knowledge, and overall methods of completing projects. Willing and eager to assist engineers on the team with various duties to meet customer and department expectations and deliverables. Physical requirements include the ability to: Work in an environment with these types of smells: paint, solvent, and solder. Frequently lift 35 lbs. Occasionally to frequently lift 45 lbs., in some work areas. Stand for the full shift with planned breaks. The duration of standing between breaks varies from 2-3 ½ hours depending on work area. Work from heights, including working from ladders and platforms. Reach in all directions (up, down, side-to-side, and diagonal reaching), including some awkward reaching to insert components in difficult to reach sections of the product. Maintain steady hand/eye coordination. Identify wire and paint colors. Read fine print. Ability to meet all workplace safety requirements, which includes wearing all proper protective equipment as required in work area in accordance with Daktronics Safety Policy and OSHA standards. Items may include the following: safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, electrostatic discharge wear, and others as determined necessary by Daktronics Risk and Safety Department. Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked. Must be able to meet and maintain Daktronics Qualified Driver status.
