Job Description

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Youngsville, NC plant manager, this position will be responsible for all aspects of injection or blow mold samplings & qualification services for new products, improvements to existing products and all validation processing for new and rebuilt molds within the functional group. This position will liaison with all plant technical roles (Itasca, IL, Fort Worth, TX, Millville, NJ, Youngsville, NC) to support machine startups with new and repaired molds, protocol validation processing, and to assist in corrective actions, and/or improving process/tooling issues. In addition, the Process Engineer will hold the responsibility for process optimization and recommendations for mold modification to new tooling to meet dimensional and visual specifications. The Process Engineer is responsible for documenting and communicating best practices throughout each manufacturing operation working closely with the plant process technicians and quality engineers.

Essential Functions

Responsible for all aspects of mold samplings & qualification services on new, replacement or rebuilt tools.Optimize the molding process to obtain dimensional limits at the designed cycle time or less as identified with the approved process capability and validation.Create and maintain standardized Master Process Sheets for defined injection or blow molding process.Attend new project meetings, design reviews and tool specification meetings as required.Trains salary and hourly plant personnel in technical areas as directed by corporate and plant management, including machine processing and tool design change recommendations.Provide Manufacturing Support to assist in solving production issues related to machine, process, tooling/design or various combinations as required. Support plants with equipment, process, capability studies and tooling qualifications/validations as needed.Perform and establish the tools and equipment qualification approval at the vendor locations.Establish and maintain data resource information relative to packaging, machinery and processes. Facilitates, Documents and Communicates that share best practices throughout all manufacturing facilities.Perform Design of Experiments (DOE’s) and Research and Development (R&D) process capability studies to ensure compliance to standards and specifications and processes.Create and maintain the Master Process of Adjustments (POA’s) for process and packaging lines baseline settings. Develop organizational technical capabilities in the organization by implementing technology platform training, build technical collaboration networks and mentoring technical team members.Maintain a current database of or customer’s injection or blow mold tooling and process conditions.  This should include all aspects of their production systems (i.e. Molds, Hot Runners, Drivers and Injection or Blow Molding machines).Creates and maintains the training program in the areas of machine operation, process control and machine troubleshooting standards.Works with and leads the corporate and plant quality teams to improve process operations and product development along with corporate R&D, Innovation and Commercial Team.Make recommendations for tooling and/or equipment upgrades or replacement based on collected data from engineering studies.Participate with Plant Operations teams to reduce scrap percentage rates and improve line efficiencies.Create and maintain division level technical specifications, standards and documentation for Operations Engineering department.Communicate with plants on a regular basis to understand long term project performance and support resolution of plant issues.Leads and preforms in house training on injection or blow mold tooling maintenance in alignment with the respective vendors.  Training will include Safety, Operations, Process Control and Maintenance functions.Provide assessment of plant technical teams and identification of training or hands on experience to help close gaps as requiredAct as technical liaison between Operations Engineering and Customer to determine the system requirements for all Amcor production lines.Considers whether new procedures must be developed.  Identifies, defines and analyses alternate course of action.Flexible work schedule 50% to 75% travel potentially required, especially between Youngsville, NC; Itasca, IL; Millville, NJ and Fort Worth, TX. 

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred or equivalent experienceEffective communication and interpersonal skills to understand, influence, drive and negotiate with internal and external customers.Strong management, communication and people skills required to influence and manage multiple resources, most of which do not report to the process engineer.Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.Able to work independently with minimal supervision.Minimum of (5) five years processing experience in the plastics packaging industry desiredExperience with SPC is beneficial.This individual must possess a broad experience and/or knowledge in the areas of:Injection or Blow Mold machine functionality and troubleshootingHydraulic circuity and process controlHands on ability to operate injection or blow mold machine platformsPossess mold and hot runner design experience and functionality testing including multi material systemsProcess fundamentals and optimizationQuality Assurance SystemsSystem interfaces and interactions for maximum performanceCustomer Service orientation along with high degree of professionalism.
