Process Engineer

Basic Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 2 -5 years engineering or operations experience in a manufacturing environment. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications:

5-7 years engineering or operations experience in a manufacturing environment Process improvement experience to make an immediate impact on Howmet processes. Ability to solve problems and identify root cause and corrective action(s). Working knowledge of statistical processing analysis tools. Training and Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Tools.

This position is responsible for providing process and material development, new product introduction, along with implement, maintain and improve automation to meet Howmet specifications. This position provides technical engineering services with product management to support operations, ensuring that Howmet remains a viable supplier in the industries that it serves. This position does not directly supervise other personnel. The incumbent communicates continually with all levels of personnel across all departments, as well as with Quality Department personnel at other Howmet locations. Externally, they communicate with customers, suppliers, and contractors.  

 

Accountability Objectives

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Conduct Time Studies to balance and define operator standard work. Generate standard work and process capacity. Coordinate all phases of assigned continuous improvement projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, equipment and facilities engineering, manufacturing, and installation through final start-up, acceptance, and project closure Assist production and maintenance with various types of equipment and process issues from an engineering and automation perspective with key emphasis on maintaining and improving reliability of systems with specialized technical expertise in the application and use of automated technology for plant facilities and processes. Lead Material Disposition Review (MDR) process, by making the appropriate decision and implementing the related process for each product whether that be reprocessing or scrapping, while adhering to Howmet quality standards, customer requirements. Maintain accurate records for all automation programs and changes to these systems. Propose and execute improvements to existing automation systems and process. Provide a higher-level support for all PLC systems.  Use data analysis tools process to identify gaps in shop floor performance to standard and make appropriate method improvements to bride/close gaps. Including scrap and rework costs. Identifying cost-savings and process improvement projects and moving them from concept to implementation. Interfacing with customer representatives and outside suppliers on Howmet product, process, and quality issues. Utilizing stability tools for processes through analysis of non-conforming material data. Supporting efforts to train production staff on process basics including in-process inspection, defect recognition, and process stability.  Troubleshooting, managing, and implementing technical inputs for incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action. Performing other duties as assigned.  

Working Conditions

This position involves minimal to moderate exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is normally performed in a shared work environment divided between the shop floor and an interior workspace. This position requires wearing full PPE when on the shop floor.

This position requires anywhere from light to moderate physical activity, such as walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time, as well as some lifting and engaging all motions necessary to efficiency perform product and equipment inspections.
