Job Purpose

Responsible for design, development, evaluation, analysis, selecting and ordering equipment that is most appropriate and cost effective for the manufacture of company products and systems.  Oversee the installation, modification, upgrade and maintenance of manufacturing equipment/processes/systems.  Keeps current on equipment manufacturers’ technical notices, upgrades and safety issues.  Studies equipment performance and reliability.  Provides advanced technical support to operations and other disciplines within engineering organization.  Identifies, develops and recommends processes needed to produce specific products and components. 

 

Relies on considerable experience and judgment to plan/perform the functions of the job.  Works on problems of diverse and complicated scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage approved engineering projects Supports specific production areas with respect to throughput, scrap, quality, ergonomics, staffing and flexibility Develop and implement manufacturing process improvements

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Not a supervisory position, but this person is expected to provide guidance to subordinates and coordinate the actions of Enersys Inc. employees and vendors to attain stated objectives.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:  BS degree or equivalent experience in engineering.  3 – 5+ years experience working in a manufacturing environment. 3+ years of direct project management experience.

Language Skills:  College level written and verbal English skills

Mathematical Skills:  College level Geometry, Algebra, and Trigonometry

Reasoning Ability:  Strong Root cause and abstract problem solving, visualization and quality tools

Computer Skills:  Microsoft Office and project management software

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Lean, Six Sigma or project management certification helpful

Other Skills and Abilities:  Planning, analytical, assertive, and interact with various groups

Other Qualifications:  

Strong understanding of manufacturing procedures/operations and product design

Applicable to all above engineering disciplines:
Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Control Plans, Root Cause Analysis

Travel Required:  Infrequent

Environmental Conditions and/or Hazards
This position involves office and factory exposure including occasional exposure to high levels of background noise.  The worker is also subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

Physical Activity 

           Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.  Body agility is emphasized.  

           Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.  

      Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

      Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

      Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

    Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily wing fingers              rather than with the whole hand or arm as in grasping.

      Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Talking:  Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word in      situations where ideas or important instructions must be given accurately, loudly, or quickly.

    Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db loss @ 500 Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction.  Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.

Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
