Process Development Engineer
A Day in Your Life at MKS: As a Process Development Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc. you play a key role in developing and transferring leading-edge optical sensing products to volume manufacturing. You will participate in the transfer process, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and developing and implementing streamlined transfer processes. In this role, you will report to the Director of Advanced Development. You Will Make an Impact By: + Design, develop and implement efficient and cost-effective processes for the high-volume manufacture of optical sensing products. + Participate in the development and deployment of automation technologies to reduce cost, increase production capacity and enhance product quality. + Set up, update and carry out test methods and equipment to streamline testing of new and existing products, with a focus on automated testing. + Partner with engineering and facilitate supplier value engineering in product development with strong influence in DFx (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Cost, Service, etc.). + Support the successful transfer of NPI products and processes into high-volume production, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing engineering and operations through a defined stage gate process. + Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, test procedures, and test reports. Skills You Bring: + Bachelor's Degree or higher in an engineering discipline. + 4+ years of process development experience in at least two areas: precision assembly, tooling & fixturing, automation, and functional performance testing. + 2+ years of NPI development and transfer experience. + Specification, validation and second sourcing of components and materials. + Equipment sourcing including acceptance, installation and qualification. + Ability to quickly learn and apply problem-solving techniques relating to manufacturing process. + Experience in risk management (i.e. PFMEA) and statistical analysis tools to analyze data and draw data-based conclusions. + Strong interpersonal communication and team skills. Preferred Skills: + Experience with optical systems. + P. Eng. or P. Eng. eligible. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. + Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time. + Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems. + Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often. + Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.
