PRN Electrophysiology Tech

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Electrophysiology Technologist functions as a scrub tech, circulator and/or monitors patients for electrophysiology procedures under the direction of a cardiologist. Analyzes and interprets collected procedural data, provides effective patient care at all acuity levels. Assists in precepting new employees and students to department’s organization and function. Maintains inventory and charges appropriately for procedures, performs all procedures per protocol, participates in quality assurance and performance improvement programs as requested. Equitable participation in call coverage required if applicable to site.

Essential Job Functions

Age-Appropriate Competency: The employee is able to demonstrate general competency in providingAge-Appropriate Care as indicated by the ability to plan, provide and evaluate care based on the physiological, psychosocial, intellectual and safety developmental needs of the patient.Utilizes appropriate processes and documents in accordance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards for each patient admitted, transferred or discharged for the invasive procedural area.Demonstrates ability to provide comprehensive care to patients.Demonstrates the ability to function in all roles of the electrophysiology laboratory (scrub, monitor, and circulate).Function as a qualified team member (QTM) in the administration of moderate sedation under the direct supervision of the physician where applicable.Provides care in compliance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.This may include administration of medications, contrast, starting IV's. IV fluids under the direction of the physician or nurse as prescribed or indicated by the patient's condition and or physician orders.Enters patient data in the angiographic archival system and operates/ monitors digital x-ray acquiring system.Operates electrophysiology support equipment including EP recording system, 3D mapping, EP stimulator and ablation equipment, as well as computer workstations for monitoring patient in accordance to industry standards and patient safetyInitiates, conducts, and assists in the resuscitative efforts in the event of cardiac arrest or life-threatening arrhythmias.Accurately records and charges in the electronic medical record.

Licensing/Certification

BLS Basic Life Support (required)

Advanced cardiac life support by end of orientation period (required)

Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist with experience in Electrophysiology (required)

PALS (required if pediatric lab)

Education

Completion of Cardiovascular Technology program (preferred)
