Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Systems Engineer – Chemical/Biological/Radiological (CBR) Survivability to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.

In this role, the CBR Survivability Engineer will have a unique opportunity to support design and mitigation strategies to develop and field a survivable weapon system with operational requirements involving Chemical, Biological, Radiological threat environments.

Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will be an integral contributor throughout the Engineering & Manufacturing Design and Test phases of the program providing domain specific expertise. The candidate will perform Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Survivability analysis, assessments and reporting to determine the likelihood of personnel, system, or aircraft loss resulting from operation within hostile threat environments. General job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform core Systems Engineering functions such as CBR requirements development, analysis, decomposition, and traceability Evaluate equipment and system-level CBR vulnerabilitiesCollaborate with Program Integrated Product Teams and suppliers to design and finalize a material compatibility assurance program and ensure CBR survivability requirements are incorporated into the weapon system design elementsEstablish material design properties (in the appropriate chemical, thermal, and climatic environments) during development testing to support transition and application of materials systems and process into the aircraftSupport development of CBR threat-level system test plans and review reports documenting equipment and weapon system complianceSupport development of program deliverable artifacts documenting design analysis, modeling & simulation, equipment, system-level trade studies, system integration, piece-part, component, equipment, and system test artifactsSupport the preparation of Program documentation supporting requirements compliance and weapon system performance traceability throughout design reviews leading to weapon system certification 

Domain Specific Responsibilities/Technical Skills: 
Perform Survivability tasking supporting the CBR analysis, evaluation, and validation of components, equipment, subsystems, or weapon system analytical models demonstrating compliance to operationally relevant threat environments. Working knowledge of strategic and tactical weapon system operational threat environments and resulting effects on system interactions of DoD and militarized commercial systems is crucial. 

Domain specific technical skills and activities: 

Decompose and analyze weapon system CONOPS & threat engagement scenarios Correlate and calculate survivability/vulnerability assessments for personnel, equipment and weapon system with respect to the relevant CONOPS and CBR threat environmentsDevelop CBR Weapon System and Component Specifications Conduct CBR survivability trade studies & determine air vehicle and system vulnerabilitiesWitness Acceptance Testing and review Qualification Test Reports Review of Seller drawings, Qualification Test Plans & Procedures, Qualification Test Reports, and Qualification by Similarity Substantiating DataWitness Component and System-level CBR Testing & maintenance demosDevelop Survivability source material/content supporting CBR CDRLs deliverables Incorporate CBR survivability Techniques, Tactics, and Procedures (TTPs) into the weapon system Technical Order and operational manuals/publications

Basic Qualifications:

Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 1 year of related professional/military experience in Engineering Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD interim Top Secret clearance prior to the commencement of employmentMust have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the companyMust have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the companyAbility to travel 20% of the time is required

Preferred Qualifications: 

Familiarity with Strategic and Tactical weapon system Chemical & Biological Threat EnvironmentsChemical/Biological/Radiological (CBR) weapon system Survivability design, analysis & test experience Experience with CBR analysis and testing, preferably component/material evaluations demonstrating interactions between material and environment compatibilityExposure and familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) modeling approaches, requirements traceability and tools (Cameo, Doors, etc.)Current, active Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
