A DAY IN THE LIFE:

This highly skilled engineer on the mobile team will leverage cutting-edge technology in a highly regulated industry to deliver life-sustaining systems to our customers. This role will operate as both an individual contributor and technical leader through mentorship, technical direction, and by modeling Tandem’s values.

Architects and designs mobile apps that communicate with remote pumps to deliver critical insulin therapy. Breaks down and organizes complex features into solitary, incremental areas of concern that can be worked on by multiple engineers or multiple teams of engineers. Embarks on a design-first mentality by documenting concepts, design decisions and patterns, and impact for other engineers to utilize. Embraces the challenges of a regulatory environment and can build technical solutions that optimize building software to meet regulatory requirements without compromising efficiency. Contributes to platform best practices and collaborates on when to incorporate cutting edge technology into the stack. Proactively designs for optimization and performance to ensure users have consistent access to their therapy and data. Guides mobile engineers programmatically by implementing readable, efficient, straightforward solutions built for the long term. Serves as an architectural expert for the Tandem mobile apps and can facilitate cross-functional communication on technical feasibility of product roadmaps. Explores new architectural concepts and integrations that revolutionize diabetes management. Incorporates test methodologies and best practices to the codebase. Appreciates the importance of testing and serves as an example for other engineers. Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.

YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

Ability to take ownership and drive technology strategy to influence technical direction amongst the team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead cross-team collaboration in the engineering organization. A hands-on focus on execution interspersed with actively mentoring and fostering talent among the team. Produce creative solutions to difficult problems that balance both design and delivery. Commitment to trust and transparency within the working team to cultivate collaboration and continuous improvement. Understands incremental improvement and champions technical and process initiatives to improve quality and ensure a best-in-class product. Effectively translates regulatory requirements and system risks into the software design. Expert in mobile development for Android and iOS using Kotlin and Swift. Experience integrating C++ libraries in an Android ecosystem. Master of test-driven development and pair programming. Knowledge of both native cross-platform mobile frameworks. Knowledge of basic Bluetooth Low Energy architecture and principles.

EXTRA AWESOME:

Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, Engineering or Mathematics or related field or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience. 10+ years of software development experience. 4+ years of mobile application design and development experience.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The starting base pay range for this position is $190,000 - $220,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
