Principal Scientist – Material Physics & Chemistry - Aerospace Research
**Job Description Summary** As a Principal Scientist – Material Physics & Chemistry you will contribute to and lead the development of projects and technologies related to the bottom-up development and analysis of materials. Areas of focus include energy conversion, such as solid oxide fuel/electrolysis cells, or other electrochemical systems relevant to materials. **Job Description** **Roles and Responsibilities** As a Principal Scientist - Materials Physics & Chemistry you will: + Conduct basic and applied research into chemical and material systems of relevance to GE Aerospace + Propose and lead projects in Energy Conversion, Corrosion, and others that have relevance to GE Aerospace + Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and provide process and production expertise in areas of energy conversion and the chemistry of high performance ceramics and metals + Serve as a technical expert on the material Physics and Chemistry team. Independently identify programs of value to the Aerospace business, and develop the value story for solutions from the component to system level. + Shape new collaborations with GE businesses as well as government agencies, universities and national laboratories. Contribute and lead proposal teams as Principal Investigator or as a team member. + Empower less experienced researchers through training, mentoring, and providing opportunities for their growth. + Effectively communicate with stakeholders and senior leadership as well as external partners and government agencies. + Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends and guides the team on competing and disruptive technologies. **Required Qualifications** + Doctorate Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the development, scale up, and manufacturing of complex systems. + Deep expertise in the chemistry and processing of ceramics and metals and their functional applications. + Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams to solve complex technical problems. + Experience developing multi-year strategic roadmaps for advanced technologies + Excellent oral and written communication skills. + A track record of innovation showcased through peer-reviewed papers and patents. + Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. + Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY + Willingness to travel at a minimum of 2 weeks per year. **Desired Characteristics** + Experience at a commercial solid oxide cell manufacturer or at a government research facility in the area of solid oxide fuel cells or electrolysis cells + Expertise in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Chemical processing + Demonstrated ability to adapt to multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced dynamic working environment + Self-motivated and ability to work independently and as part of a team + Project experience and publications as the lead author in the area of solid oxide fuel or electrolysis cells. The base pay range for this position is 130,000 - 240,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary.
