Your role and responsibilitiesTake your next career step at ABB and work in a global team that is driving the energy transition for a productive and sustainable future as Principal Power System Designer Engineer.ABB Energy’s Power System Design & Analysis Team spearheads the energy transition by developing sustainable and optimal electrical solutions for our customers. For this purpose, we are further growing our team with power system experts and experts-to-be.As a part of our team, you will have the opportunity to directly impact the design of some of the world’s most complex electrical projects, leveraging ABB’s enormous capacity and expertise in electrical and automation solutions.Main responsibilities• Be a key advisor on systems and technologies that are key for the energy transition, such hydrogen production, offshore wind, subsea electrical systems across the ABB organization• Ensure power system integrity in studies and projects in close alignment with ABB deliveries. Develop power system, protection, and control philosophies• Guide and review design and calculation of power systems, such as load flow, short circuit, harmonics, dynamic and transient studies, when practical also perform these tasks• Assess grid codes and their impact on the power system design to ensure grid code compliance. • Lead, advise, support electrical studies from early phase engineering to projects• Support ABB front end sales, technical advisory and market and account development teams• Conduct/supervise technical discussions with equipment factories and support supply chain• Initiate, inspire and participate knowledge sharing within the team, provide support and direction for junior team members• With your manager, plan and lead improvement initiatives relevant for the team in your field of expertise• With your manager, plan and lead technical submissions for industry events and conferences• Educate and guide your colleagues on general engineering practices as well as your specialization area
Qualifications for the roleThe most important skills: Expert knowledge of electrical power system design, including industrial power systems, modelling of renewable energy sources, design and selection of compensation equipment, batteries, energy storage and other power electronic systems, power system control & protection, and high voltage power transmission through cables Good understanding how to assess the commercial impact of our electrical system design choices to design the best fit-for-purpose solution Team oriented and high ability to collaborate and to develop and guide junior colleagues Interest to understand ABB’s portfolio and use of new and existing technologies for the energy transition Strong communication skills to convey results in a simple and understandable way both orally and in writing Structured and systematic Domain expertise in renewable energy systems, such as wind, solar, hydrogen, battery systems, microgrids, energy management, or subsea or offshore electrical equipment. Open and curious to deploy new methods technologies such as generative AI, scripting, design thinkingRequirements MSc in electrical engineering Several years of relevant experience with electrical systems Strong oral and written communication skills in English and preferably Norwegian
