Principal Network Engineer
Location: Falls Chruch, VA Type: Onsite Travel: 15% Sealing Technologies, a Parsons Company, provides Cybersecurity services and cutting-edge technologies to the Federal Government. SealingTech is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Network Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will serve as a technical leader, providing hands-on expertise in designing, implementing, and securing enterprise-wide networks. You will play a key role in enhancing our network security posture as well as streamlining the administrative process. This role requires a deep understanding of network protocols, security controls, and visibility tools, as well as the ability to lead technical discussions with clients and deliver high-impact projects. Key Responsibilities: + Lead teams dedicated to enhancing the network efficiency and security posture of client environments. + Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on high- and low-level network protocols, routing, switching, and security technologies. + Utilize network visibility tools and technologies such as NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX, SIEMs (e.g., Splunk, ELK, Security Onion), and network management dashboards (e.g., Grafana, Zabbix) to monitor, analyze, and optimize network performance. + Understand IPS/IDS signatures and implement advanced network threat detection/prevention techniques. + Apply network automation to all phases of the IT lifecycle: deploy, operate, maintain, upgrade. + Utilize packet capture tools (e.g., Wireshark) to troubleshoot, audit, and secure network environments. + Lead customer-facing technical discussions, providing insights on network and security changes and their impact on business operations. + Develop and maintain network diagrams (e.g., Visio), scripting solutions, and detailed reports to support project delivery and compliance. + Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends to deliver innovative solutions that meet customer needs. + Efficiently deploy enterprise, datacenter and/or wireless networks + Maintain a robust understanding of full packet capture (FPCAP), with critical insights into its role in assessing and enhancing the security posture of a network. + Maintain knowledge on gateway, routing, and bridging protocols and implementations (BGP, EGP, EIGRP, OSPF, STP, RSTP) and how they provide value to the customer's networks to achieve enterprise or global reachability. Additional Responsibilities: + Interacting with customers regularly by attending meetings, gathering requirements, working with them to resolve issues, driving business, and attending conferences. + Leads development of technical content for proposals while managing + Helping the management, sales, and marketing teams with proposal writing, content creation, meetings, and events + Drives technical direction and identifies new business opportunities in their focus area + Technical and leadership mentor to junior staff Qualifications: + 10+ years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on enterprise networking and security. + 5+ years of experience managing global WAN + Active Secret security clearance + CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certification (To include completed Written and Lab Exam) + DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification + Hands-on experience with network visibility tools (e.g., NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX) and SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, ELK, Grafana). + Proficiency in packet capture analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark) + Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and automation tools. + Strong knowledge of security controls and their effective deployment within enterprise networks. + Deep understanding of network protocols, routing, switching, and security technologies (e.g., firewalls, IPS/IDS, proxies, load balancers). + Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of full packet capture (FPCAP) methodologies, including their application for comprehensive network traffic analysis, advanced troubleshooting, and in-depth security auditing. + Experience with IDS/IPS systems (e.g., Suricata, Snort, Zeek) and their integration into network environments. + Ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate with customers and team members. + Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in dynamic environments. + US Citizen. This role has an internal job title of a Network Security Engineer V or Principal Network Security Engineer with a corresponding base salary range of $170k to $220k (aligned with current national standards) and set in line with internal benchmarks. Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to the anticipated salary, one will have the opportunity to qualify for bonuses. Please note that this position is a temporary position with the possibility of being converted to a permanent role.
