WSP has a new opportunity for a **Principal Geomorphologist** to join our **Environmental Management team in British Columbia** . As a Principal Geomorphologist, you will provide expertise on multi-disciplinary water resource, bioscience, environmental, civil, geotechnical, and mining projects in BC, across Canada, and internationally. Your role will include business development, team leadership, mentoring junior and intermediate staff, and providing geomorphic expertise in river and coastal engineering and design (including nature-based design), geohazards, geomorphic monitoring, and stream and shoreline restoration, civil engineering, and environmental projects in diverse sectors. We offer attractive pay, flexible work options, a great corporate culture, comprehensive and employee-focused benefits including virtual healthcare and a wellness platform as well as great savings programs, and a clear vision for the future. \# **WeAreWSP** **What you can expect to do here:** + Act as regional lead for fluvial and/or coastal geomorphology, participating in a variety of geoscience, environmental, and engineering projects from the proposal stage through project completion + Provide expertise on shoreline and riverbank erosion, debris flows, fluvial and coastal morphology, sediment transport, and Quaternary geology + Oversee geomorphic analysis, including channel stability, sediment supply and yield, terrain mapping, and landform studies + Contribute to hydrologic studies such as flood and drought assessments, climate change analysis, and water management studies + Apply a process level understanding and approach to river and shoreline restoration projects + Perform geomorphic analysis and support development of sustainable strategies to address problems related to natural fluvial and coastal hazards (e.g. flooding, debris flows, erosion, and sedimentation) and human interactions (e.g. spills, coastal structures, dredging and beneficial use, materials management) in the context of climate variability and change + Perform geoscience analyses to support geo-environmental projects such as sediment fate assessments, transport of sediments of concern and resuspension assessments. + Perform geoscience analyses to support design and assessment of surface water works including bridges, dikes, dams, diversions, water intakes, pump stations, surface water outlets to rivers, pipeline crossings, and mine infrastructure. + Provide geoscience support during detailed design and the preparation of tender packages (including drawings, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates) + Provide geoscience support during construction in cases where geomorphic interpretation and analyses can improve the final product or address mid-construction challenges by confirming changes in the geomorphic processes affecting the project. + Manage multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborating and working efficiently with engineers, scientists, technicians, and managers at all levels, and communicating effectively with clients + Manage multiple project deadlines, budgets, and scope changes + Support business development through proposal writing and strategic planning + Develop and sustain positive business relationships + Offer innovative solutions to clients through business development initiatives + Provide technical direction and mentoring to junior staff **What you'll bring to WSP:** + Degree in Physical Geography or Earth Science (preferably Master’s or above) + A substantial depth of consulting experience + Registered as a Professional Geoscientist, or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Geoscientist, in British Columbia + Significant experience within the fields of river, coastal, and debris flow processes + Extensive experience in water resources/hydrotechnical projects, including geohazard assessments, sediment transport, nature-based design, and erosion protection + Familiarity with field techniques and experience in guiding junior field staff + Familiarity with numerical hydrodynamic models + Experience in construction site inspections an asset + Ability to problem solve, work collaboratively, motivate, and lead by example + Proficient oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write proposals and technical reports + Exhibit a high degree of motivation, strategic planning, self-starting capability and able to work autonomously + High ethical standards and integrity + Committed to technical excellence + Proven track record of developing and strengthening client relationships + Ability to manage and develop business relationships **Compensation** Expected Salary (British Columbia): **$119,400 to $164,200** The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
