Practice Area
BCG Platinion launched in Germany in 2000 to add deep technical expertise to the Boston Consulting Group’s existing capabilities. Today, our presence spans across the globe, with offices in Asia, Europe, and South and North America. Our New York-based North American team began in 2014 and in 2017 acquired MAYA Design, a Pittsburgh-based digital design and innovation lab, to grow our capabilities around technology and design.
We support our clients’ total digital transformation through technology, design, cybersecurity, and risk management & financial engineering capabilities. What You'll Do
As a Principal IT Architect , you will work closely with clients to understand their issues, define IT strategies, architecture solutions, win buy-in for your recommendations, and collaborate with fellow BCGers to transform client potential into performance. You will be positioned as team lead, own intellectual leadership and have operational architecture project responsibility. You will lead the project team (s) in a large, complex enterprise environments and drive operational and client service excellence. You will help your teams flourish through thought leadership, team mentoring and business development, and clients will seek your advice on business issues that extend beyond the immediate scope of your project work.
What You'll Bring
Experience:
12+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, IT strategy, and large-scale system design, with a proven track record of implementing and optimizing payments platforms, core banking systems, and other critical financial technology solutions.
Technical Skills:
Banking System Expertise:
Deep knowledge of core banking platforms (e.g., Temenos, Finacle, FIS, SAP Banking) and payment processing systems (e.g., SWIFT, SEPA, RTGS, ACH, and ISO 20022 standards).Experience in real-time payment systems (e.g., Instant Payments, Open Banking APIs) and card-based payment systems (e.g., Visa, Mastercard, EMV standards).System Architecture Design:
Proficient in designing scalable, secure, and resilient architectures for transaction-heavy environments, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery.Expertise in building and integrating microservices-based architectures to modernize legacy banking systems.Digital Transformation:
Skilled in leading large-scale core banking migrations, integrating cloud-native solutions, and implementing API-driven ecosystems to enable fintech innovation.Experience with Open Banking frameworks and enabling ecosystems through API gateways and PSD2 compliance.Security and Compliance:
Comprehensive knowledge of banking regulations and compliance standards, including GDPR, PCI-DSS, DORA, and regional banking laws.Proven expertise in implementing enterprise-wide security measures, including fraud detection, identity management, and encryption protocols.
Desirable Expertise:
Payments Innovation:
Experience in distributed ledger technologies (e.g., Ripple, Hyperledger).Familiarity with AI-driven credit scoring, underwriting systems, and other fintech innovations.Integration Mastery:
Deep experience in integrating fintech and insurtech solutions with traditional banking systems.Proficient in using enterprise-grade middleware, orchestration platforms, and Open API strategies.Vendor and Partner Management:
Proven ability to evaluate, onboard, and manage vendors specializing in banking technology (e.g., payments gateways, risk management platforms).
Interpersonal & Leadership Skills:

Extensive expertise in banking, fintech, or insurtech, with hands-on experience delivering:
