Principal Engineer, Power Supply

We are currently seeking a Power Supply Engineer on our Central Infrastructure team for our site in Charleston, TN.

 

What you will do:

This role reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager in Central Infrastructure. The Power Supply Engineer will provide technical support and engineering services in the field of electrical engineering and is responsible for the uninterrupted power supply of the Charleston site. The position assures safe operations, regulatory compliance, and maximum availability of the power supply equipment and/or infrastructure utility systems.

 

Manage and/or support capital invest and expense type projects within area of responsibility Coordinate 3rd party service providers Maintain and operate the 161kV, 13.8kV, 5kV and 480V network including switch gears, transformers, capacitor banks and other equipment. Conduct and coordinate trouble shooting activities of Power Supply Equipment malfunctions Lead and oversee all Preventative Maintenance (ITPM) programs and tasks for Power Supply equipment. Prepare Switching orders for temporary changes for “maintenance” and restoring back to “Normal” Operations Maintain and operate the emergency 13.8kV generators and Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) system Act as point of contact to company's power utility company; Create monthly energy reports; Analyze and review monthly power billing Own and maintain electrical duct banks; Determine duct bank routing, design, and occupancy; Coordinate future usage of duct banks with the business partners Subject matter expert for VFD and motors Maintain and update the ETAP Software for the Site Power Supply model; Add new electrical loads and changes of electrical loads which connect to the Power supply grid into the model Actively manage and coordinate external repair of electrical equipment like breakers or other equipment Consult and support capital projects executed by Wacker’s project engineering team regarding power supply topics Support the Plant Engineering Managers in providing safe operating conditions, regulatory compliance, availability and performance of various production units Support availability of production units at required capacity and quality Conduct and/or coordinate debottlenecking activities Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality and cost Develop and/or support development of specifications, standards and codes Work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams Represent Wacker’s interests towards suppliers and contractors Compile and provide reports related to area of responsibility Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering & Maintenance department, Operations and other service units with focus on achieving optimal results/solutions from a corporate/enterprise perspective Perform all tasks and assignments in accordance to company's policies and procedures Other duties as assigned

 

What we need from you:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; Electrical Engineering is preferred 15+ years of experience in Power utility companies or industries with high energy demand like Pulp & Paper, Refineries, Chemical or Power plants Experience work for/with Power utility companies or industries with high energy demand like Pulp & Paper, Refineries, Chemical or Power plants Strong verbal and written communication skills   Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements Thorough understanding of engineering principles and construction practices Thorough technical knowledge in the field of power supply, electrical engineering and instrumentation incl. relevant regulations, standards, and codes; Knowledge in automation and controls (EI&C) is a plus. Team player attitude Objective judgment and fact-based decision making approach Strong multitasking competency Ability and willingness for domestic and international (mainly to Germany) travel Experience in Power Distribution Systems and Equipment from 161kVA to 480V 161KV - Siemens GIS (Gas-insulated switchgear) , Southwire cable, 45MVA transformers 13.8KV - Siemens NXAir medium-voltage (MV) switchgear, MV Bus Duct, Okonite cables 4160V - Siemens GMSG, MVC & MVS type contactors, bus tie for starts 480V - Low voltage switchgear (LVSG), WL breakers, Power Control system (PCS) & network - Servers, Rugged communication equipment (Ruggedcom) Capacitor Banks - NEPSI Diesel Generators - MTU diesel, Marathon 13.8kV Rotary UPS - Piller SIPROTEC protection relays Main-Tie-Main concept
