Principal Bioinformatician Computational Lead

Responsibilities

The Principal Bioinformatician Computational Lead oversees the development and implementation of a multi-site effort in computational toxicology and pharmacology services, primarily located at the Raleigh/Research Triangle Park (RTP) office of Inotiv. They are part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the development, validation, and evaluation of alternative toxicological methods for implementation in international regulatory testing.

 

They are expected to have a working knowledge of biology, biochemistry, toxicology, pharmacology and/or statistics. Experience with error corrected next-generation sequencing and analysis of data from this technology is an asset. The Principal Bioinformatician uses or develops computational methods to analyze, simulate, visualize, and predict the toxicological or pharmacological effects of chemicals from in vivo and in vitro studies.

 

They will consult on experimental design and statistical analysis and coordinate project timelines associated with the implementation of these analyses. They are expected to assist as necessary in all aspects of data analysis, including data curation, statistical evaluation, data management, and preparation for/conducting analyses using predefined computational workflows. Dissemination of information needed by U.S. governmental committees and regulatory agencies, stakeholder working groups, peer review panels, and test method developers is an essential part of this position. Likewise, preparation of scientific and technical documents such as presentations, reports, workshop summaries, manuscripts, and operating procedures are core components of this position.

 

The Principal Bioinformatician is responsible for growing the computational toxicology team, including training, mentoring, and recruiting. They are expected to actively participate in business development and work in a team environment where cooperation and a professional attitude are essential. Other duties will be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

M.S./Ph.D. in related scientific field with at least 8/5 years post-degree experience in bioinformatics, computational biology/toxicology, (bio)statistics and/or data analysis.Demonstrated proficiency in data manipulation using the programming languages R, SAS, or python.Experience writing and editing technical documentsExcellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong history of working across multiple sites, with customers, and other stakeholders.Experience working well independently and in a team environment

Preferred

Familiarity with working in a Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) environment.Experience analyzing RNAseq and DNAseq data.Experience in cheminformatics or computational toxicology.Familiarity with KNIME.Familiarity with supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.

A successful team member will be a service-oriented team player who is able to work on a variety of concurrent projects within the area of pharmacology and toxicology. They will work cooperatively with diverse teams and communicate their science effectively to non-technical clients. This position is based in RTP, NC and is eligible for remote work in the U.S.

 

 

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.  The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
