The Technology & Engineering organization is comprised of the global engineering function, several focused centers of expertise, and our advanced Research & Development lab – the Research Center. The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM.  The AMPCC is focusing on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.

Job Responsibilities:

The Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products.  They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:

Develop, author, and lead novel external project proposals to advance AM technology

Collaborate with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers,  project concepts, and responsive proposals

Lead process development activity to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost and enhance material performance in support of advanced RTX Business Unit product initiatives

Develop and utilize advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space

Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream

Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and best practices

Basic Qualifications:

The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment.  Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:

Demonstrated experience writing proposals and leading complex R&D projects as Principal Investigator

Presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills

Experience with advanced build processors including tool path development and implementation

Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar

Experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages

Hands on experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment

Working understanding of AM machine sensors and control systems

The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance

Organizational and time management skills

A desire to learn something new every day

US Citizenship required.

Education:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.

Preferred candidates for this position will have a PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
