The Electrical Engineering team defines, develops, and commercializes our designs for new, industry-leading sequencing instruments for life sciences and clinical markets.
Job Overview:
As a principle electrical engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development and testing of embedded systems with a focus on hardware-firmware integration. This role requires a deep understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and real-time operating systems (RTOS). You will lead and contribute technical efforts, mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high performance, next-generational products.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage high-priority projects from start to finish, including concept, scope, schedule, budget and resources
Collaborate with management, project and cross functional team members, vendors and contractors to ensure projects are executed successfully and on-time
Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Lead technical reviews, including design, schematic, and code reviews, to ensure high-quality and robust design practices
Knowledge of power electronics, cabling, communication, safety, and sensor integration with significant challenges related to complexity, power, size and thermal management
Perform system-level design, including the integration of FPGAs with other hardware components, such as microcontrollers, processors and memory
Contribute to the development of technical documentation, including module-level specifications, requirement specifications, verification plans, and statements of work
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to peers, junior engineers and emerging leaders fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex embedded systems

Requirements:
BSc/MS with 16+ years of hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Strong knowledge in analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design
Experience with embedded communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet)
Experience with high-speed interface and protocols (e.g. PCIe, SerDes, DDR)
Strong knowledge of system design, simulation, and modelling
Working knowledge of schematic capture, FPGA development tools, PCB layout and hardware description languages (e.g. Altium Designer, Xilinx Vivado, ModelSim, Verilog)
