Job Description The New York City Comptroller’s Office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together. The Communications Team supports the work of the Comptroller’s office to secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers by disseminating information, highlighting key initiatives through digestible and multimedia content, growing the credibility of the office through relationships with the press and the public, and advancing the conversation locally and nationally on key policy objectives. The Press Intern will help execute the office’s communications strategy in coordination with the Press Officers, Press Secretaries, and Chief Strategy Officer. Responsibilities of the Press Intern include, but are not limited to: - Support the execution of communications strategies to establish the Office as a trusted voice on government and fiscal transparency, oversight, and accountability. - Learn to draft press releases and other written material on a wide range of issues from the economy, financial sector, housing, to transportation. - Work hand-in-hand with senior communications staff and issue experts from the Asset Management, Budget, Audit, and Policy divisions on a wide range of issues pertaining to the city and the work of the Comptroller’s office. - Help plan for press conferences and events. - Monitor news and social media pertaining to New York City and issues pertaining to the work of the office of the Comptroller. - Meet and greet with reporters in the New York City press corps and sit-in on interviews. - Work with team members to align press and digital strategy. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Matriculation at an accredited college. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in college. IMPORTANT: - Our office is located at the David Dinkins Municipal Building, 1 Centre St. in Manhattan/New York. - All interns will work in-person in the office, Monday – Thursday, 28 hours per week. - The employment period will be from June 2 – July 31, 2025. Qualifications As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year). NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
