Your role and responsibilities

Driven by global sustainability ambitions and major electrification trends, the mining industry is fundamentally changing. We predict that electrical energy will be a key resource shaping the mine operations of the future. In ABB Process Industries Business Line Mining we want to spearhead the smart electrification landscape in mining industry, to provide maximum efficiency, reliability and productivity, as sustainability cornerstones, to our customers. As an accomplished expert in power conversion systems, you will be instrumental in helping us shape the future landscape of standardized solutions that support the electrification of the mining industry, solving such challenges as designing multi-megawatt charging systems for electrical haulage, ensuring reliable operations of converter-rich mining grids, or introducing new technological paradigms in the design of the mining electrical grid.Join our Technology and R&D organization and be the driving force in creation of our future portfolio, utilizing your wide know-how and deep expertise. The work model for the role is: #LI-Hybrid (This position will be located in Baden City as of March 2025).Your main responsibilities will be:• From idea to portfolio: Based on the identified market trends and customer needs and requirements, you will map relevant technological approaches for prominent infrastructural needs of mines of the future. • Evaluating technology: You will be performing structured evaluations of the defined space of technological solutions, considering end-to-end system design, deployment, operation and life-cycle aspects. The goal will be to create concrete technological proposals and support the portfolio organization in business evaluation and decision process. • Standardizing solutions: You will be driving the creation of standardized system offering, which is ready for cost effective deployment in customer projects, with clear license to operate.• Collaborating in eco-system: We are a system unit that takes pride in solving customer problems, by integrating various products into end-to-end solutions. You will engage with an eco-system of product and technology suppliers, from ABB and externally, to drive the creation of differentiated competitive portfolio for the mining industry. You will be close collaborating and cocreating with mining customers and mining industry OEMs.

Qualifications for the role

You bring strong end-to-end understanding of multi-megawatt power conversion technology, demonstrated by 10+ years of relevant academic, industrial and hands-on experiences, and possess a solid grasp of the technology player landscape.You have strong experience in structured evaluation of power conversion systems, including strong power electronics systems simulation skills. You are well versed in challenges of integration of power electronics into power systems.You possess experience-based understanding of what is required to bring a power conversion system from a concept design to a well operating system. You are knowledgeable on topics like safety and conformity and have good understanding of the standards of this technical field.You are a system thinker, who enjoys complexity and is managing it well. You are working in a structured way and possess a keen interest in the system design and system engineering.Concrete experience in electric vehicle charging, battery energy systems and/or microgrid design is a strong plus to your application.Curiosity, broad knowledge and growth mindset are a must for this dynamic role.Business fluency in English, strong presentation and communication skills, as well as strong relationship building ability are the enablers for the role.
