What You Can Expect
As a Power Congestion Analyst II, you will report to Director Congestion Trading and provide quantitative and fundamental analytics for US electricity markets to improve grid modeling and congestion analysis. Every day, you will perform cost modeling by using DAYZER to forecast nodal electricity price components and analyze weather patterns and fuel prices to predict the base electricity prices.
Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection (PJM) Independent System Operator (ISO) congestion analysis Execute production cost models (Dayzer preferred) by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results Develop systematic and repeatable approach to form fundamental views with respect to congestion trading Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits). Develop and test innovative trade ideas and strategies Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions Assist with ad-hoc fundamental analyses Participate in ISO meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve trade tools Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations
What You’ll Bring
A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in which you completed courses in Engineering/Business/Finance or relevant disciplines A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in congestion markets analysis, power plant economics, price forecasting, trading, or a related discipline Six (6) months of experience with production cost modeling, congestion analysis or wholesale electricity market experience in the relevant ISO Experience in ERCOT or PJM ISO congestion market Strong understanding of power grid optimization, powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors and contingency analysis Strong analytical skills Willingness to engage in dialogue and debate with colleagues Proficient in coding such as Structured Query Language (SQL)/ Python Knowledge of statistical techniques Ability to meet highest attendance requirements Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy

This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy, 4 days working in the office Monday through Thursday Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation
Salary Range: $74,900 – $131,040 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
