We are seeking a PhD graduate to fill a postdoctoral research fellowship. The fellowship is related to exciting research projects in the Centre for Learning on Evaluation and Results Anglophone Africa.
Centre for Learning on Evaluation and Results in Anglophone Africa
The University of the Witwatersrand s Centre for Learning on Evaluation and Results Anglophone Africa (CLEAR-AA) is one of six regional centres housed in academic institutions across the globe and is supported by the Global Evaluation Initiative. The CLEAR Initiative is a collaborative global program founded by academic, bilateral, and multilateral institutions to support evaluation capacity strengthening in developing countries. Conceived as an innovative approach to developing the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) capacities of governments and civil society organizations (CSOs), it is based on South-South collaboration and is backed by prestigious academic institutions recognized for their excellence in the evaluation field.
As a public good centre, CLEAR-AA has been contributing to the strengthening of country M&E systems and capacities across English speaking African countries. In a continent facing challenges such as lack of evaluation culture, the politicisation of evaluations, resistance to evaluation, lack of human and financial resources for evaluation, poor data, and mismatch between the timing of evaluations and decision-making cycles; strengthening M&E systems and capacities become critical as it enhances effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability in the implementation of state and non-state-led development policies and programmes. As CLEAR-AA we believe that M&E systems play a critical role in influencing positive socio-economic development outcomes which are key in low economically developed countries in Africa. Through strengthening M&E systems capacities across African countries we will also be contributing to strengthening democracy by fostering transparency and accountability.
