Neuromodulation for Neurogenic Bladder Management in Spinal Cord Injury

We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. or M.D. to join the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UTHealth Houston, McGovern Medical School, located in Houston, TX.

We are one of 18 spinal cord injury (SCI) and 16 brain injury (BI) model systems in the country, collaborating with the busiest Level 1 trauma hospital system in the country. This provides an abundance of research opportunities for the UTHealth Department of PM&R and TIRR Memorial Hermann, nationally recognized as one of the top rehabilitation hospitals in the country.  Our research aims to enhance function and quality of life, addressing issues such as continence, pain, mobility, and overall function.

The ideal candidate will manage a randomized control trial, pioneering a first-in-human SCI device implantation to improve detrusor overactivity for SCI neurogenic bladder. Responsibilities include coordinating the trial, obtaining subject consent, handling regulatory documents, following up with subjects, and collecting data. Additionally, the candidate will assist with other ongoing trials, adhering to our philosophy of staff redundancy to ensure continuity in case of absences.

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.    Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
2.    Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
3.    Reads and evaluates literature.
4.    Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
5.    Have strong written and oral communication skills.
6.    Performs other duties as assigned.

Doctoral/Terminal Degree

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
