POSITION TITLE:  Postdoctoral Associate

POSITION SUMMARY: 

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the group of Drs. Stuart Lipton and Tomo Nakamura in the Neurodegeneration New Medicines Center and the Department of Molecular Medicine at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California.

The selected candidate will plan and conduct novel research projects that involve a significant amount of cell culture, including human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), as well as molecular biology approaches. The successful candidate will assist in designing experiments, perform thorough data analyses and interpretation of results, and have the opportunity to use sophisticated laboratory equipment such as a Nikon confocal microscope, high-throughput screening confocal (ImageXpress), and patch-clamp or LTP electrophysiology rigs. Core support at Scripps includes scRNA-seq, Mass Spec proteomics, and synthetic and analytic chemistry. Additional preferred qualifications include a background in molecular biology, biochemistry, and neuroinflammation. The individual will pursue research projects solely and in collaboration with other lab members and supervise or provide work direction and training to other lab members. The individual will also write-up results for publication and attend scientific meetings to present results. The specific research projects will involve investigations of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases using hiPSC, human cerebral organoid, and rodent model systems.

Postdoctoral Associates are appointed positions for the purpose of developing scholarly competence, working under the supervision of a Scripps Research Faculty member. These appointments are normally not renewed beyond a total of five years. Postdoctoral Associates can apply for fellowships but not other external funding either as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator without prior approval from the Departmental Chair. Postdoctoral Associates do not have consulting privileges.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a doctoral degree. A pending doctoral degree may be considered with approval of the Principal Investigator.
• Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills
• Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time
• Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills
• Successful record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals

COMPENSATION: Postdoctoral Associates will be hired following the National Institute of Health and California’s exempt salary guidelines, which provide for a starting range of $68,000- $73,230. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
