Postdoctoral Associate

The laboratory of Dr. Ryunosuke Amo at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to investigate neurocircuit mechanisms of learning and decision-making, with a focus on dopamine neural coding and its dysfunction. Please see:
Amo et al., Neuron, 2024 (https://www.cell.com/neuron/fulltext/S0896-6273(23)00979-0)

The successful candidate will work with mice and conduct in vivo neurophysiology with molecular tools, data analysis, and modeling (using MATLAB or similar programming languages). A basic knowledges and deep interest in neuroscience are required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in in vivo neurophysiology and/or computational data analysis. With guidance and support from the supervisor, the postdoctoral associate is expected to lead a project within their scientific discipline and collaborate with other researchers.

The duties of the role will include but may not be limited to the following:
• Neurophysiology & Imaging: Perform in vivo electrophysiology and optical recordings.
• Animal Behavior: Design and conduct behavioral experiments combined with optogenetic, chemogenetic, and pharmacological manipulation of neural circuit function.
• Experimental Setup: Develop and maintain behavioral and recording systems.
• Data Analysis: Process and analyze neural and behavioral data (custom coding required).
• Stereotaxic Surgery: Conduct precise stereotaxic injections and implants in mice.
• Transgenic Mouse Colony Management: Maintain and manage breeding colonies of transgenic strains.
• Molecular Biology: Perform molecular cloning, cell culture, and virus generation (AAV, clipped rabies virus).
• Histology: Conduct immunohistochemistry and fluorescent in situ hybridization.
• Scientific Communication: Present research findings in lab meetings, conferences, and publications.
• Grant & Literature Research: Contribute to grant proposals and stay current with relevant literature.
• Mentoring: Mentor undergraduate students and other early-stage trainees alongside the PI.
