Postdoctoral Appointee - X-ray Spectroscopy & Catalysis
Argonne National Laboratory
We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within our Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division (CSE).
In this role you will:
Conduct research as part of a multidisciplinary team in heterogeneous supported inorganic and organometallic catalysis. Perform detailed _in situ_ / _operando_ studies of catalysts using X-ray Absorption and Emission Spectroscopies, as well as other advanced spectroscopic techniques. Design, synthesize, and characterize metal-ligand complexes supported on metal oxide and/or non-traditional support materials. Evaluate the catalytic activity of these materials and how electronic metal-support interactions in non-traditional catalyst materials can be leveraged to modulate catalytic activity and selectivity, including studies towards understanding reaction mechanisms through reaction kinetics analysis and other physical organic and inorganic techniques.
**Position Requirements**
+ Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in fields of organic, organometallic, or inorganic chemistry - scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience
+ Experience with spectroscopy applied to catalysis, especially XAS and other X-ray spectroscopy techniques
+ Experience in the synthesis and testing of heterogeneous catalysts
+ Understanding of kinetics and thermodynamics as applied to catalysis
+ Knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of highly air-sensitive catalyst materials
+ Experience with the design and construction of batch and flow reactors for catalysis
+ Experience with analytical techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy
+ Proficiency in written and oral communication
+ Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
