Postdoctoral Appointee: TEA LCA Analyst
The Applied Materials Division (AMD) at Argonne National Laboratory conducts applied research to develop sustainable innovative technologies to improve the efficiency of resource and energy utilization; to minimize our dependence on imported energy; and to enhance our national security. A Postdoctoral Appointment is now open for a candidate with expertise and experience in techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle analysis (LCA) of decarbonization technologies, such as batteries, fuel cells, and electrolyzers. The candidate should have a good understanding of recycling processes for decarbonization technologies, sources and production processes of materials embodied in these technologies, and 2nd life applications of batteries. A good knowledge of process scale-up and chemical plant design is of importance as well. The candidate should also be familiar with databases, tools, and methodologies relevant to TEA and LCA. The successful candidate will 1) collect data pertaining to recycling of decarbonization technologies, battery materials production, and battery 2nd life applications from open literature and databases, as well as through communications with industries, government agencies, and other collaborators; 2) analyze collected data with Argonne’s TEA/LCA tools, such as EverBatt to estimate associated cost and environmental impacts; 3) write reports and journal articles to document research findings; 4) provide analytical support to Argonne’s ReCell Center and AMD on advanced recycling and manufacturing technologies. **Position Requirements** + A recent (0-2 years) Ph.D. Degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, or similar degree. + Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and good computer programming skills. + Knowledge of techno-economic analysis and life cycle analysis. + Understanding of decarbonization technologies, their supply chains and recycling processes. + Experience working with Argonne’s EverBatt model, GREET model, and BatPaC model. + Knowledge of Aspen Plus or other chemical engineering models. + Ability to work well within a team of experts in various areas of expertise. + Skilled in oral and written communications with peers, colleagues, and collaborators. + A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork. **Job Family** Postdoctoral Family **Job Profile** Postdoctoral Appointee **Worker Type** Long-Term (Fixed Term) **Time Type** Full time _As an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
