Position Description
The Texas Tech University Postgraduate Intercollegiate Athletics Internship is intended to provide on-the-job learning experiences for college graduates interested in pursuing a career in various areas of intercollegiate athletics. This program can last 12-36 months.

Future leaders will gain experience in using principles such as:

- Applying a standard of ethics to policy and administrative context
- Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of current operations within area of assignment
- Communicating relevant information and ideas
- Managing university resources to achieve organizational goals

Major/Essential Functions
The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) functions to be a resourceful, intentional, individualized support system that aids in the academic development of student-athletes. Our comprehensive program seeks to address individual student needs and learning concerns, foster independent learning, and skill development both inside and outside of the classroom. We strive to support student-athletes in their pursuit of academic excellence, personal growth, and professional development.

Specific ExpectationReport directly to the Assistant Director of the Learning Assistance Program.Regularly communicate and collaborate with the Learning Assistance Program staff.Provide appropriate communication as needed with Athletic Academic Advisors regarding students on caseload.Work independently with a caseload of student-athletes to enhance effective learning strategies, interventions, and academic skills through weekly meetings.Assist with intake assessments and evaluations such as the LAP assessment and Learning Profiles.Demonstrate and contribute to a culture of high academic integrity through consistent practice.Compile Individual Academic Plans by developing a comprehensive understanding of specific learning disabilities and the various strategies and interventions that will support academic growth and development when requested.Assist with developing and implementing innovative programming for academic support to enhance educational opportunities for student-athletes.Assist in Tutor Orientation, Tutor Training, and Professional Development.Assist with Semester Evaluation of tutorial staff.Maintain filed documentation of LAP Assessments.Report any incidents (academic fraud, misconduct, and disturbances.)General ExpectationsFrequent communication with the Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes staff.Communicate with Academic Advisors to discuss student-athlete progress/development.Provide academic skill instruction, development, and learning strategies to a caseload of student-athletes at various learning levels.Learn the Screening/Testing process:Learning ProfileOptimal Performance EvaluationPsycho-Educational TestingRegistration with Student Disability ServicesReview different types of learning accommodationsProject ManagementAttend all Athletic Department, MSC, and LAP meetings as assignedOther duties as assigned by the LAP staff.

Required Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university and previous experience with collegiate or professional athletics.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or a current graduate student enrolled in a master’s degree program in education, sports administration, counseling, or a related fieldExperience in collegiate athletic academic support, higher education, teaching, or related field.Educational background and/or tutoring experience.Experience working with students in an educational setting.Strong communication, organization, time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skillsExcellent computer skillsProficiency in MS OfficeKnowledge of Learning DisabilitiesKnowledge of education regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA, ADA, 504, etc.)Ability to work overtime, including nights and weekends.Ability to work independently and as a team.
