The Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology serves as a beacon of both internationally recognized research and locally delivered advanced clinical care. The Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology is a part of the OHSU School of Medicine, with its own admitting service and clinic. We provide all the diagnostic angiographic, interventional radiologic, and neurointerventional services to the OHSU and VA Hospitals.

 

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The individual hired for this position will serve as research faculty and lab manager for the Dotter Memorial Research Laboratory at the Dotter Institute. The role of the lab manager is to carry out and facilitate the educational and research projects at the Institute. This will be done under the supervision of the Director of Research, and the Director of the Institute overall. Activities include coordination of clinical and translational lab research, including protocol design, preparation and execution.

The Dotter research lab offers additional educational workshops involving an animal model for which the lab manager is responsible to organize and conduct. We also support industry and academic collaborators by providing translational research support, device prototype testing, and running educational/teaching labs. The lab manager is expected to play an active role in reaching out to potential industry and academic collaborators to continue and expand our lab activities and scope. Coordination of maintenance requirements and updates of the research facility and interfacing with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) will also be administrative responsibilities of the position.

Function/Duties of Position Coordinate clinical and translational lab research activities of the Dotter InstituteDesign and participate in clinical and translational research projectsAssist in providing education in translational procedures and in clinical training activitiesAssist in preparing lab publications, electronic media, and lecturesInterface with industry and academic collaborators to facilitate clinical and translational projectsParticipate in funding applications to support research activitiesProvide mentorship and education to undergraduate, graduate and medical students, clinical residents, and clinical and research fellows for research activities of the Dotter InstituteOversight of the research facility including regulatory compliance, research personnel training and maintenance of lab equipment and inventory Required Qualifications Terminal degree (MD, PhD or equivalent by experience/training)
Familiarity with animal care and handling, anesthesia, animal surgery,
pre- and post-procedural managementTraining and experience in scientific methods, including biostatistics and scientific protocolFamiliarity with percutaneous procedures, equipment and devicesExperience in teaching and mentorshipParticipate in animal care, handling and procedures/surgery, including image-guided proceduresDevelopment of IACUC protocolsBasic cell cultureBasic Tissue processing and histology (fixation, H&E, fluorescence microscopy, electron, microscopy)Radiographic interpretation pertaining to translational studies (fluoroscopy/X-ray, CT, MRI, US)Development and execution of research proposals and grantsM.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree
