Post Doctoral Associate

The University of Miami/UHealth Katz Center has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Post Doctoral Associate to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.

Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.

Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

The Postdoctoral Scholar works under the direction of a Principal Investigator and conducts/assists with a variety of research activities that are complex and wide in scope.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses.

Assists faculty researchers and other collaborators in the planning and design of research experiments.

Establishes priorities and recommends schedules, timetables and costs.

Presents project results to internal and external parties.

Operates specialized scientific equipment.

Uses available technology to facilitate the success of projects.

Liaises with other departments, outside collaborators and others to ensure success of experiments.

Writes technical publications and reports.

Trains staff, graduate assistants and/or student employees.

Core Qualifications

MD or Ph.D. in biology field. Ph.D. in the subject discipline by the time of appointment.

No prior experience required. One (1) year in a research laboratory prior experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject disciplines.

Organizational and project management skills.

Written and oral communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills

Competency in experimental design, execution, and troubleshooting.

Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing scientific data.

Proficiency in scientific literature.

Strong technical writing for manuscripts and grants.

Proficiency with lab equipment and protocols.

Expertise in molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g., qRT-PCR, Western blotting, mammalian cell culture).

Familiarity with rodent animal models.

Ability to manage research projects and collaborations.

Strong work ethic and self-motivation.

Collaborative mindset and adaptability.

Dedication to research integrity and scientific rigor.

Openness to learning and interdisciplinary approaches.

Effective communication and mentorship skills.
