Position Availability: Position Title: Porter Requisition Number: 0206074289 Location New York City Position Type: Maintenance Position Status: Full-Time Department: CA/Facilities Mgmt Responsibilities: Under the supervision of a foreman, superintendent or Facilities Management, the porter is responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of detail plant work, in accordance with established standards and instruction.This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between The New School and Local 32BJ-SEIU.

Key Responsibilities Sweep, mop and scrub floors, stairs (inside and outside buildings) and other surfaces. Use of light and heavy (industrial type) floor machines and attachments. Strip, apply finish and polish floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubber, buffers and high-speed burnisher. Use of industry-standard cleaning chemicals is expected. Vacuum carpet in offices and public areas, periodically using heavy vacuum cleaner equipment, carpet shampooing or water extraction machinery. Use of back-pack and up-right vacuum machinery is expected. Clean, vacuum and/or dust furniture, exhibit cases, pictures, door trim and chalkboards. Adjust, clean and oil cleaning equipment and change brushes, pads, rollers, buffers and other attachments. Clean window blinds ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds. Clean all glass surfaces. Wash and/or clean interior wall spaces by hand or with powered wall washing machinery. Clean and re-stock rest rooms. Use of scrubbing machinery and disinfection chemical is expected. Outside sweeping of sidewalks and cleaning cigarette collection bins and ashtrays. Collect trash and re-cycle materials from office, corridor, restroom and classroom spaces. Movement of trash to holding areas and place trash in collection area for removal by sanitation/recycle trucks. Replace liners in wastebaskets, trash/recycle containers. Move heavy furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment, as directed. Report items that need repair (doors, door checks, furniture, light bulbs, plumbing fixtures, etc.) Sweep or shovel snow as directed. Set up chairs and tables or other furniture for meetings, classes, and events as assigned. Complete work orders as assigned Painting as directed Assist with light plumbing and electrical repair Perform related duties, as assigned.

Work ModeOn-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.

Hourly Rate$29.852 Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications Willingness to contribute as a team member in the Facilities Management operation. Ability to read, write and communicate with co-workers and the University community, in English Follow instruction and work towards servicing and improving the campus environment. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred QualificationsPrior housekeeping, janitorial, or maintenance experience.
